Summer Ball is such an important event in the medical school calendar and I would love the opportunity to make ball 2011 fantastic for everyone, from the final years to the freshers.

I have not been on the summer ball committee before but I have a lot of experience in catering and event planning, and I am very organised and enthusiastic. I would put together an experienced and talented committee to plan every aspect of the night and make sure it runs smoothly.

I have worked as a chef and waitress in the past, so am familiar with the necessary planning and execution required for an event like summer ball. I have also personally catered for large events, gaining experience of the organisational skills required for the role.
I would like to be a member of the SU because I would love to be able to give back to the medical school and help make a difference.

The things for summer ball that would be most important for me would be:
1)A memorable but affordable night
2)A stunning venue
3)Delicious food
4)Lively entertainment
5)An event which everyone in the med school can enjoy

Thank you and I hope you vote for me.

The Summer Ball is not just the highlight of the social calendar, nor just the final evening out before the long (for most at least) summer break; it is also the first night of the rest of many new doctors’ lives and so should be an epic night to mark this momentous occasion.

However, this need not make great expense inevitable – the Ball is for everyone and keeping tickets affordable would be my priority. Deals, discounts and donations abound in London, just requiring time and effort to uncover. After securing a discount for the boat party, free prizes & donations for the quizzes and helping to plan fundraising activities for another committee, I feel prepared to start making and saving money early so the Ball will flourish and even make a profit for the charity it supports!

I’ve really enjoyed helping to organise the balls and events this year and learnt important skills that will help not just in organising the Ball but also the smaller nights out, crucial for building funds. Being on the SU this year has kept me updated on the problems Michael has faced and how he overcame them, so I am already aware of what my main challenges would be and feel prepared to address them.

In the end this is our Ball and if elected I’ll work hard throughout the year trying to find out exactly what you want and then achieving it, while still keeping ticket prices down – so please, vote Ash!
