CHARLES E. MCKELVEYSTAFF SGT USMC
Staff Sergeant Charles E. McKelvey was born in Camden, New Jersey. He enlisted in the Marine Corps’ delayed entry program in March 2005, and attended Recruit Training in June 2005 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. Upon graduation, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Private McKelvey reported to the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland, for training in the primary MOS of 4341. In March of 2006, PFC McKelvey completed the Basic Public Affairs course with a specialty in writing.
PFC McKelvey reported to the 2nd Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, for duties as a combat correspondent. In January 2007, Lance Cpl McKelvey was selected to return to the Defense Information School to attend the Basic Public Affairs Course with a specialty in broadcast journalism. Upon graduation, Lance Cpl McKelvey earned the additional MOS of 4313, broadcast journalist.
Lance Cpl McKelvey received orders to 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in May 2007 and deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq, with II Marine Expeditionary Force. During this time, Lance Cpl McKelvey reported on events such as the Anbar Awakening, andhe embedded with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines in Ramadi, Iraq.
Cpl McKelvey returned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in February 2008 for duty as the community relations officer.
In April 2009, Cpl McKelvey received orders to Recruiting Station Atlanta to serve as the marketing and public affairs chief. In May 2009, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and attended the Marketing and Public Affair Representative Course in Quantico, Virginia.
Sergeant McKelvey received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, in November 2011 to serve as the press chief. Sergeant McKelvey was promoted to his current rank of Staff Sgt in March 2014. While in Japan, Staff Sgt McKelvey worked on numerous media, community relations and political-military initiatives.
In June 2014, Staff Sgt Mckelvey was selected to attend the Public Affairs Officers Course at the Defense Information School. Upon graduation, Staff Sgt McKelvey was selected for duty at the Office of U.S. Marine Corps Communication, Headquarters Marine Corps.
Staff Sgt McKelvey is currently assigned as the program analyst for Public Affairs Systems, Marine Corps Systems Command.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
He is married to Jillian and has two children, Emma and Colin.
