Who is eligible to apply for the Awards? Applications are welcome from schools, colleges and organisations working through schools and colleges in England involving children and young people up to the age of 18 years.

Applications will be judged by system leaders across the national teaching schools network and representatives from the field of character education.

Main application

Please answer all the following questions in support of your application. Responses will be assessed according to the published judging criteria. It is not necessary to include statistics on pupil attainment, as the DfE has access to all published data.

1.  Please describe the culture of building character in your organisation. What character traits, attributes and behaviours do you promote and how do you promote them?

2.  What programmes and/or extra-curricular activities have you introduced to develop character traits, attributes and behaviours in pupils?

3.  How have you implemented these programmes and activities? Do you take a ‘whole school/college’ approach or do you target groups of pupils? Do you take an in-school/college or out of school/college approach? How is character development incorporated into wider school/college activities and learning?

4.  How have you collaborated or shared your work with stakeholders, including parents and carers?

5.  What evidence do you have to show that the character education you provide is effective? How do you monitor its impact?

6.  What are your plans for the future? What do you envisage the impact of winning an award would be?

You may provide up to 4 supporting documents, eg surveys from parents or pupils; and internal or external evaluations. These will not be assessed as part of the judging process, but may be used for clarification or case study information if successful. Please email these documents with this application form.
