2014 TRY-OUT & SEASON INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in joining our 2013 Lanier Middle School Track and Field Teams. I’m excited for this season to begin! Below I have some information on what to expect during the upcoming season and information on try-outs. I also have a work out plan for you to use the next few weeks. Track Season
How long is the track season? The season will last from January 20th – March 28th.
What days will the team have practice? The team will have practice starting Monday through Thursday.
How many meets do we have on our schedule? Right now we have 4 track meets scheduled.
Can I play baseball and run track? Yes you can. The baseball the track coach coordinate a schedule that works best for both teams.
Can I play on the Lanier Soccer team and run track? Yes you can. The soccer coach and I will work out a schedule that works well with both sports.
Try-outs
When are tryouts? Tryouts will be held on Tuesday January 14, and the Wednesday January 15th 2014.
Do I have to attend all tryout days? Yes, everyone must attend both tryout dates in order to become eligible to make the team.
What should I bring to tryouts? On all tryout days you will need an athletic shirt, shorts, running shoes, a water bottle and a light jacket. If you have not turned in paperwork for any other sport, please bring me the forms completed.
What should I expect on the first two days of tryouts? The Tuesday January 14th tryouts session will be held at Lanier MS. We will begin warm-ups outside at 3:40pm and start the tryout session at 4pm.
What should I expect the second day of tryouts?
The Wednesday, January 15th tryout session will be held at Lamar HS. You will bring all personal belongings with you as we leave Lanier together at 3:40pm. We will light walk/ jog the to the Lamar HS track. We will not come back to Lanier so parents will need to pick you up by the in bus ramp across from the Lamar Track.
EVENTS
Field events - The HISD middle school field events are long jump, high jump, triple jump, and the shot put. All athletes must try out for all unless approved by me.
Distance - If you are trying out for distance running and you are in the 7th grade you will be timed in the following events 400m, 800m, and the 1200m. The 8th grade will be timed in the 400m, 800m, and the 1600m
Sprinters - All 7th or 8th grader interested in trying out for any of the sprinters running events you will be timed in the 100m, 200m, and the 400m.
