Chapters 2-4 Unit Project

A Differentiated, Scholarly Approach to Leaning

Project Due Date:______

These past months, we have spent time learning about the Roman and Muslim Empires. You now have the chance to focus on an area of interest and create a product to share with the class.

General Directions: Everyone will choose a TOPIC from the list below. You will complete a project and a placard for your topic to share with the class for a total of 40 “Q” points. (20 point project, 20 point placard) All projects must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Partners? Each student will work individually on this project. This will show your teacher how YOU understand the material and represent your knowledge.
  • Technological difficulties will NOT be accepted as an excuse for late or missing work. (ex: the flash drive not working on the day of the presentation or being unable to print at home will not excuse you from turning the project in on time!) Always have a back-up plan!
  • Research: It is expected that you will research details above and beyond the textbook. Using the textbook as a starting point is fine, but then you will need to look for more information. There will be sources available in the classroom for your use. You will need to create a Works Cited page using Easybib.com with all of your sources (including the textbook!). WIKIPEDIA WILL NOT BE AN ACCEPTABLE SOURCE!
  • Textbook: You will be required to bring your Social Studies textbook to class each day of the project. The textbook will be one of your sources, so it is very important that you have it in class every day.
  • Chromebooks? You are required to bring your charged Chromebook to class each day to work on the project.
  • Plagiarism will result in a zero. All work must be original. Avoid copying/pasting, changing around “some” words, etc.
  • Homework: You may need to work at home on this project, depending on your check-ins and teacher conferences. Class time will be provided, too.
  • Final Projects: All projects require color and illustration. All writing must be typed/ink.
  • Grading: Your 40 points will be based on 20 points for the project and 20 points for the placard. See the attached grade sheet for further details.
  • Materials: Bring needed materials to class each day so you can be a productive worker. Your work habits grade will be affected on a daily basis.
  • Final Projects: All projects have their own set of directions. Please note the specific directions for the project you select.
  • Digital Projects: If choosing a digital project to display your knowledge, it is critical that you understand how to use the features of the program in order to meet the academic standard. If your project is digital and will not be printed out for display, you will be turning in your project to your teacher. Stay tuned for further directions.
  • Placards: All projects require a physical copy of a placard addressing the requirements of each topic. Placards should be typed/written in black ink, no smaller than size 12 font, in Times New Roman style.
