Accomplishments to Date

Physical Library Appearance

  • Created new Graphic Novel section with new shelving, complete with student work, posters, etc.
  • Created new Stand-Up Catalog Station for student only searching for books (separate from computer lab)
  • Decorated for monthly themes and events
  • Labeled shelves and created signs to make finding materials easier

Additional Library Upgrades

  • New SHS Library Latte’ Bar open every Friday morning
  • Small Lanyard Store, so students have a choice and helps encourage wearing ID cards
  • Student Aides program in library (Seniors); Currently, there are seven aides
  • New Databases and web links added to the library website
  • SHS Library Brochure updated for quick reference and at-home use
  • Updates Quick Reference & Password Sheets for library computer use

Library Supplemental Lessons/Orientations/Events

  • General library orientations for all freshmen and sophomores
  • Chillers & Thrillers Story Night
  • Eclipse Movie Tickets Quiz Raffle
  • Mockingjay Book Club
  • Co-taught Book Trailer lesson with Media Classes to produce trailers for the library website
  • Revamped Library website look and added new information
  • Research lessons for teachers in various subjects
  • Database lessons for junior and senior English teachers
  • Turnitin lessons for English teachers
  • College 101 lessons for seniors
  • Worked with student teacher program on crafts, lessons, picture book talks, and projects

Involvement in School/District-wide Committees

  • SHS Social Committee chair person

- This includes planning, attending, and executing family events, social events, teacher events, etc. In charge of Flower Fund budgeting as well

  • Campus Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC) representative

- This includes attending monthly meetings, teacher surveys/requests, research and helping make changes, etc.

  • District Planning Advisory Committee (DPAC) representative

- This includes attending monthly meetings and compiling information for staff, etc.

  • District Library Technology Equipment Committee

- This includes creating form and collecting equipment information from district librarians, compiling and determining needs and trades

  • High School Librarian Monthly Meeting Group

- This includes meeting monthly with other high school librarian to talk about and implement new lessons, practices, incentive programs, etc.

  • Creative Writing Club

- This includes helping students with their writing, ideas, and publishing process

  • Curriculum Gold Team

- This includes collaboration with Department Heads and other staff members on resources and needs for our teachers and school

Involvement in other Groups/Activities/Trainings

  • Co-Chair with STUCO for Homecoming Pep Rally & Carnival
  • Make monthly event calendar for staff to help keep everyone informed
  • Started Chickfila Spirit Days to earn money for the school
  • Worked with Sonic to get discounted drinks for students and staff on game days
  • Region XI Monthly Librarian Book Review Meetings
  • EMS District Librarian monthly meetings
  • BER What’s New in Young Adult Literature and How to Use it in Your Program training
  • Region XI training on how School Libraries can Increase School Achievement
  • Attended training day for Destiny, Library Circulation System

  • Volunteered at various school events (prom, fashion show, talent show, etc.)
  • Chaired Biggest Sagger Contest 10 Week Rounds 1 & 2 (weekly reports, informational emails, and program certificates/fake checks/weekly prizes)

Goals for 2012-2013

  • Continue with current library and school services
  • Train teachers on how to use the library to better help their students
  • Research ways and speak with staff about how to integrate library usage and/or materials usage into the classroom more at the secondary level
  • Improve on the Library Latte’ Bar
  • Increase activity budget from Latte’ Bar to buy new color poster printer for teachers ($3400...start up ink included).
  • Work on and implement an Incentive Reading Program
  • Improve Library Student Assistant Program
  • Provide new ID Card/Lanyard Store set up to increase funds and increase number of students wearing their badges
  • Collaborate with teachers and create new sections on the library website for each subject area to better help students and teachers find information pertaining to their needs
  • Work on ways to minimize library expenses
