Chapters 1-6 Review: Multiple Intelligences Stations

Class: Geometry Part I

Lesson: Chapters 1-6 Review

After completing Chapter 6, I wanted to return to previous chapters and review key concepts and vocabulary words. I decided to try to incorporate the concept of multiple intelligences into my review. I thought that stations would be the best way to incorporate them all. Using all eight intelligences was harder than it may seem. It took quite a lot of planning, but I did some research, and the results paid off. I came up with six different worksheets and two activities to use. I decided that I would have seven stations that would take 20 minutes a piece. This meant that I would have to use two days to complete the stations. My students did four stations on Station Day 1 and three stations on Station Day 2. In order to incorporate the 8th intelligence, intrapersonal (self smart), I made a worksheet entitled “Tell Me How You Feel.” That worksheet was used at the end of Station Day 1 and Station Day 2 for the students to express what station they liked best each day and which station they liked best overall. They also included explanations why. The students enjoyed the stations, a provided great feedback.

Multiple Intelligence Alignments

  • Linguistic (Word smart): Write Away- The student uses a variety of vocabulary terms to write a fictional story, referring to at least 5 words by their correct geometrical definitions.
  • Naturalistic (Nature smart): Math, Naturally- The student uses pictures from nature to pick out geometric concepts.
  • Visual/Spatial (Picture smart): Can You See What I See?- Students will use pictures to label different geometric terms and solve problems.
  • Rhythmical/Musical (Rhythm smart):Rhyme Time- Students will make “Who Am I?” rhymes using traits of their vocab words.
  • Kinesthetic (Hand-on smart): Triangle Box Origami- Students will use their hands to construct an origami box out of 3 sheets of paper.
  • Logical (Problem smart): Logic- Students will solve logic puzzles using critical thinking.
  • Interpersonal (People smart): Games- Students will play two games in their group, helping each other.
  • Intrapersonal (Self smart): Tell Me How You Feel- Students will evaluate the stations each day, stating which station was their favorite and why.

Six Hats Alignments

Red Hat (Emotions, Feelings): Tell Me How You Feel- Students will express their feelings about their favorite stations and why they picked them as their favorite.

White Hat (Facts): Write Away, Math, Naturally, Can You See What I See?, Rhyme Time, Logic, and Games- Students will use facts to identify terms or solve problems.

Orange Hat (Critical Thinking): Logic- Students will use critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning to solve logic problems.

Objectives

  • Students will be able to review concepts learned throughout Chapters 1-6, focusing on the reinforcement of all vocabulary terms.

Pre-requisite Knowledge

  • The students should have prior knowledge on how to follow directions.
  • The students should have prior knowledge of how to write in complete sentences.
  • The students should have prior knowledge of all vocabulary taught in Chapters 1-6.
  • The students should have prior knowledge allowing them to recognize their vocabulary terms in pictures.
  • The students should have prior knowledge of how to compute geometric problems involving special angle pairs and triangles.

Lesson/ Activities

  • The teacher will introduce the 8 multiple intelligences, explaining how every person learns differently.
  • The teacher will introduce each station, making sure to tell students all pertinent information.
  • The students will complete 4 stations on Day 1, switching stations after 20 minutes.
  • The students will fill out their evaluation sheet for the stations they completed on Day 1.
  • The students will complete 3 stations on Day 2, switching stations after 20 minutes.
  • The student will complete their evaluation sheet for the stations they completed on Day 2.
  • The teacher will discuss how each intelligence related to the stations.
  • The teacher will ask feedback from the students about the stations, getting likes, dislikes, and/or new ideas.

Differentiation

  • The teacher will circulate among the students helping students correctly record their answers.
  • The teacher will circulate among the students simplify and clarify directions as needed.
  • The teacher will re-teach concepts as necessary.
