8)Prepare a persuasiveessay on the topic: Resolved: the focus on cotton was or was not good for the southern economy in the early 1800s. Use the library, internet, and textbook to research reasons why dependence on one staple crop such as cotton may or may not have been good for the economy. Use this information to write a persuasive essay on your arguments. This must be a two full-page, typed double-spaced essay. Make sure to include supporting evidence.

10)Write a letter to a government official pointing out the unsanitary living conditions, health risks, crime and poor public services associated with urban life in the early to mid-1800s. Your collages will be focused on women’s roles in society, then and now. Use images/pictures from the internet, magazines and newspapers to complete your collages. I would suggest including images of famous women on your collages. When you have finished your collages, you will write an essay focusing on your two collages. Your essay should explain why you picked the images/pictures you did for your collages, what you think about women’s roles from back then, and what you think of women’s roles from today. Finally, discuss your opinion on the following question: In present day, are womentreated equally in the work place, or are males still the dominant force in the work place? Your collages should fit into Packet Grande, but if you are having trouble doing that, please see me. Your essay must be typed, double-spaced and two pages in length.
