Overview

-Students learn how the geography of the Indian subcontinent influenced the migration of early settlers to India.

-Students first read about and map important physiographic features of the Indian subcontinent, such as the Indus River and the Himalaya Mountains.

-They analyze the influence of the features on food supply and trade and then predict the location of the earliest settlements in ancient India.

Objectives

• identify and locate eight key physical features of the Indian subcontinent, including the major river systems.

• analyze how the physical setting contributed to the location and rise of civilizations in India.

• identify locations of human settlement in India circa 2500 B.C.E.
