Chapter 4. California Water Today

About this Chapter

NOTE: California Water Todayoutlines and discusses primary water issues both statewide and regional waterthat are focused primarily on years since the last update (i.e., 2010-2013.) This may include some historical and background material, but especially recent climatic and hydrologic events and legal and legislative actions and policies shaping these issues. Snapshots are developed for Highlights and concurrently are fleshed out in this chapter.

Much of the narrative in this chapter remains from one water plan to the next update. Of course, data must be current, emphasis may change, and new issues will require more detail, usually borrowed from other DWR reports and news releases. Also, follow text of speeches and presentations made by Director Cowin. Water-related proclamations or executive orders by the Governor provide strong descriptions of those conditions that prompted executive attention. Other good sources are below. Subject matter experts submit text or at least review it.
