Names : ______

Name of constellation : ______

Directions: In this assignment you will select one Northern constellation. Research the constellation and prepare a presentation to be shared with the class.

Requirements: Shared responsibility by all group members!

Presentation: A timed 4 to 6 minute presentation must be shared

with the class. Use note cards or rehearse what you are going to

say. Each member of the team is responsible for at least 4 slides.

The method:

·  Power Point with explanations given orally (not read).

Information requirements:

1.  Primary star name (common) or Greek letter identifier.

2.  Magnitudes and identities of the three most luminous stars in the constellation or other “famous” stars. Ex Polaris in Ursa Minor.

3.  The mythological story that is attached to your constellations. Make sure your is clear and you can pronounce all the names in the story.

4.  The date (month) of the year when your constellation becomes most visible in the Northern Hemisphere at 9:00 PM.

5.  Identify any “Deep Sky Objects” that are a part of your constellations. This includes open or globular clusters, nebula and galaxies beyond our Milky Way.

6.  Clear and accurate pictures of your actual constellations with major stars named.

7.  Artistic mythological representations of your constellations.

8.  Tell us how to find them: Using commonly recognized stars as your reference points, tell us how you would describe a means to find your constellations. For example – starting with the “pointer stars” of Ursa Major (the big dipper). You must include a picture of stars you are identifying.

9.  A Bibliography citing your sources is mandatory
