CHANGES TO PROPOSED LOCAL PLAN

Reason for objections;

  1. BMBC are proposing a minimum of 90 executive homes with some low cost housing behind Darton Road. The site is large enough to accommodate 200 houses, history shows that majority of properties will be bought by commuters, no indication of how many low cost houses are to be included.
  2. Land behind Stanhope Meadows is being proposed as safeguarded land taking this out of green belt. If approved this would open up land behind Five acres for taking out of the green belt which would be difficult to object to. The suggestion is again 45 executive homes. It would compound the urban sprawl to Baraugh Green and the traffic problems on Darton Road.
  3. Access to the Darton Road site is from Horncroft. Highway engineers have confirmed that the junction with Darton Road falls substantially below the minimum requirements for visibility. And are dangerous Being in the centre of the conservation area with existing buildings either side it is not practical to improve this .THIS ALSO APPLIES TO THE JUNCTION WITH CHURCH STREET AND ALSO CINDER HILLS LANE.
  4. Darton Road is congested with residential parking. There is no means of providing parking for cars off the road. Being in the conservation area there is no way the road can be widened. This also applies to the pavements which in places are less than 30cm wid
  5. Speeding. Cars entering the village from Kexborough increase speed as they pass Five Acres and Stanhope avenue, more cars from Stanhope Meadows will increase this hazard.
  6. Junction with Cawthorne Lane and Churchfield Lane. This does not allow for 2 cars to pass on the junction buildings either side make it impossible to widen. The weight restriction on the bridge on Cawthorne Lane means that commercial traffic has to come through the village centre.
  7. Public transport. One bus per hour to Barnsley that does not stop at any of the local train stations means you have to drive to travel by train, car parks at both stations are inadequate.
  8. Justification for inclusion survey by BMBC. The majority of the reasons apply to any site in the borough e.g “ the site will contribute to delivery of new homes which will ensure there is a balance between jobs and homes in the borough”. The lack of facilities such as doctors, shops etc are dismissed as being available at a District Centre within 1.6 Km but do not name this or how you access it without a car. P.T.O.
  9. They accept that the sites are not accessible to facilities by public transport but dismiss this as a problem as we are on the A635 which gives good access to services in Urban Barnsley by car.
  10. Green belt and landscape character. They accept that the Darton Road site is in an area of landscape sensitivity and development would change this but again ignore this reasoning that there is existing residential development to the north and west of the A635.
  11. Everyday needs. We have one small village store and a post office, no doctors, dentists,or other life essentials these have to be accessed by car in other locations.
  12. Visual impact offDarton Road site. Situated on the valley sideit will be intrusive in the surrounding landscape.
  13. Safety. Both sites suffer from proposed access roads being through roads which have cars parked either side, with no alternatives for the emergency services.

GENERAL

  1. Limit your comments to general facts not ones that just affect you,egNOT I cannot get out of my drive safely BUT villagers have difficulties getting out of their drives safely.
  2. Better to have 3/4 strong comments eg. all the problems on Darton Road could be combined.
