2001 IEEE EMS International Engineering Management Conference

Change Management and the New Industrial Revolution

Preliminary Call for Papers --- IEMC 2001

Host: Lally School of Management and Technology, RPI Troy, New York, USA

October 7-9,2001

(Sagamore Hotel, Lake George New York)

Come to the Capital District of the Empire State ---to hear the latest about management and the technological drivers of change—and see the resplendent colors of fall in the Northeast

How must we improve the way we manage in order to meet the challenges of technological innovation? Information systems, biotechnology and nanostructured materials present the possibility of a greatly changed industry landscape. How will these new technologies impact job creation, policy, industry structure and existing business models? What new tools and concepts do we need to embrace these challenges to create wealth and wellbeing.

The conference theme, Change Management and the New Industrial Revolution, has been selected to emphasize the growing recognition that technology is forcing us to rethink the way we do business. Entrepreneurial approaches to commerce and expertise in change management need to be developed. These can be enhanced by insights gained from research and sharing of experiences related to technology and management. The principle objectives of the conference are to heighten awareness of these issues and to enable participants to develop the techniques and capabilities to deal with them.

The Chairs and Organizing Committee solicit papers for presentation at the conference. All papers will be reviewed by up to three referees for technical merit and content on the basis of an abstract of no more than 500 words. Papers accepted for presentation will appear in the Conference Proceedings provided at least one author registers for the conference. All abstracts must have a cover page containing the title of the paper along with the names, affiliations, and complete mailing addresses of all authors, as well as a list of the three designated topic areas most closely related to the paper. Correspondence will be directed to the first named author unless indicated otherwise. Six pages will be allocated in the Proceedings for each accepted paper. Papers that exceed this length will be charged on a per page basis. Each paper presentation should take no more than 20-30 minutes. The Conference seeks presentations dealing with such topics as:

•  Innovation and new product development process

•  Managing disruptive technologies and radical innovation

Proposals for half-day workshops related to the conference theme are also solicited. An honorarium will be provided for each workshop based on the number of registered attendees. We also request suggestions for workshop topics of interest to the EMS community. We request that the abstract cover page or letter of intent contain an e-mail address to which conference correspondence can be directed.
