SCHOOLS BASKETBALL
CIS Boys Basketball Finals2017
The finals series of games will be played in Term 1, extending into the first weeks of Term 2 if absolutely necessary.
When the completion dates of each of the different competitions are known, the Basketball Committee should determine the draw, to enable the first known qualifying teams to play their game probably before the completion of the other competitions. It does not matter if the top two teams meet in the first game because to represent CIS at the next level, you have to win two games. There is no runner up.
The Basketball Committee will set completion dates for games in Term 4 of the preceding year.
When the winning schools are known, those schools will arrange games within the designated period. Once dates and venues have been agreed, they cannot be changed.
In deciding the draw for the semi-final games, the Basketball Committee should take into account the previous semi-finals. In 2014, it was ISA winner v AICES winner and CAS winner v GPS winner.
If only two winning teams are known, they should play regardless of previous games.
However, if three teams are known at the same date the rotation would be:
2017 AICES v CAS and ISA v GPS
2018ISA v AICES and GPS v CAS
A team that participates in this Finals Series is making a commitment, if the winner, to play in the Champion School of NSW Finals in September and if the winner of that tournament, to represent NSW in the Championship Division of the Australian Schools Championships in December. A team with largely Year 12 players must consider that commitment before taking part in the CIS Finals Series. If their players will not fully commit, the second placed team in that particular competition should be invited to participate in the CIS Finals Series.
The venues of the games should alternate between the Associations involved. If one of the schools whose turn it is to host a game is not able to provide a facility of suitable standard, they may choose another venue, or play at their opponents venue. If they choose the latter, that Association would play three consecutive games at their opponent’s venue.
It should be noted that, depending on the draw, it is possible that a school will host a semi-final game and host the final, if they are scheduled to play the other semi-final winner at home. Two Associations have this possibility one year and probably the other two the following year (depending on who plays whom).
