DISTRICT INSPECTION: INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

The points below deal mainly with the important issues emerging from a district inspection of ICT.

The strengths of the work include:

  • the skill and confidence of the teachers in using ICT to support their work;
  • the good quality of the displays using ICT in classrooms and corridors which enhance the visual appeal of the learning environment and record a wide range of uses made of ICT;
  • the excellent use made of the digital camera to record the pupils’ experiences of a variety of activities;
  • the high quality of the resources produced by the teachers to personalise the children’s learning experiences, eg Talking Books;
  • the enthusiasm and skill of the children in using ICT appropriately to enhance and support their learning;
  • the exceptional quality of the leadership and co-ordination of ICT throughout the school.
  • the high quality of the staff development programme and, in particular, the staff computer club which has contributed significantly to the teachers’ confidence in using ICT;
  • the use of ICT to enhance lesson preparation and implementation.

There were no areas for improvement identified during this inspection visit.
