Chair reappointed to NHS Lanarkshire.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing today announced the reappointment of the Chair of Lanarkshire NHS Board.

NHS Lanarkshire serves a population of around 562,000 and is committed to improving the health of the population, reducing health inequalities and ensuring that appropriate and high quality healthcare is provided.

Mrs Neena Mahal - was appointed Chair of NHS Lanarkshire in 2013, previously serving as a Non-Executive Board member and Vice Chair of the Board. She was Chair of the South Lanarkshire Community Health Partnershipand has served as a member of various governance committees including clinical governance, staff governance, audit and remuneration. Neena is qualified as a Careers Adviser andhas also worked in the Equalities field within Education and as a Training Consultant. She has a particular interest in equality and diversity, change management and engagement strategies. She also has extensive experience of working with young people and in community development. Over the last 20 years she has been a Board member of various Public Bodies, charitable and voluntary sector organisations. Neena is also a former member of the Broadcasting Council for Scotland and former Trustee of National Museums Scotland, having served as a Trustee on the Project Executive Group which had oversight of the £46 million building and exhibition redevelopment of the Museum.She was also a UK Trustee for BBC Children in Need and built expertise in grant making policy development, evaluation and an understanding of issues affecting disadvantaged children and young people.Neena is currently a Governor of The Glasgow Academy, Chair of its Education Committee and the Governor with responsibility for Staff Liaison. In 2014 Neena was appointed Deputy-Lieutenant for the area of Lanarkshire. Neena brings to the Lanarkshire NHS Board her wide ranging experience in governance alongside strong analytical and interpersonal skills with a good understanding of partnership working.

The reappointment will be for one year and will run from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.

This reappointment is part time and attracts a remuneration of £32,142 for a time commitment of three days per week.

Neena Mahal does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

This reappointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Neena has not had any political activity in the last five years.
