Interim Leadership, 2016-17
The Governing body met on Monday 04-Jul-2016 and agreedthe best way forward from September. We were clear that any interim arrangements that were to be put in place would have to be for a minimum period of 12 months to ensure continuity and to avoid mid year changes.
We resolved that Mr Gregory Doey, the Headteacher at Pilgrims Way Primary School, should be approached with a view to being the Interim Executive Headteacher at Bellenden School with effect from September. I am delighted to say that Mr Doey has agreed.
Pilgrims Way School is a very good school, also in Peckham. Mr Gregory Doey is an experienced Headteacher and brings with him Ms Julie Irelandwho willbeHead of School for both schools andtogether,they will lead the way forward for Bellenden.Mr Doey will be based predominantly at Bellenden and Ms Ireland at Pilgrims Way. Both are experienced in leading 2 schools and the partnership is expected to reap benefits for both schools. Mary Kelly will continue as Deputy Headteacher for Bellenden School.
We realise that the announcement of Mr Borthwick’s leaving must have given cause for some concern. There were procedures and processes to follow before announcing Mr Borthwick’s decision to step down and was the cause of some delay. As a Governing Body and with the help of the Local Authority, we are confident that we have put into place an arrangement that will strengthen Bellenden School, build on the improvements already made and provide our young people with a good educationthat enables them to thrive in a safe, stimulatingand happy environment.
If you wish to discuss any of this, I and other governors propose to be available at the end of School on Monday 11th of July and I will also be available from 4pm on Thursday 14th July, also at the school. We will also arrange informal opportunities for you to meet both Mr. Doey and Ms. Ireland in September.
