CGE News worth Howling About

2016-17,edition II

It's hard to believe our year isalmost over! We’ve had an amazing amount of involvement and event attendance. It’s truly been a record-breaking year. Let’s continue this momentum through the final quarter of the year!

Teacher Appreciation Week will be here before you know it. At CGE we will be celebrating our teachers & staff the week of May 8-12. Each day, the PTO will be surprising the staff with treats, everything from a coffee & tea bar to a fully catered lunch. Each teacher and EA will also receive a special gift at the end of the week from PTO on behalf of all of the families at Cedar Grove. This year, we will also be asking students to handwrite a note or create a drawing for their teacher that lets the teacher know what they’ve helped each student with the most this year. This is a week that everyone looks forward to! It is a huge undertaking, though, so if you can volunteer during the week or help with donations, it is deeply appreciated! Check the PTO website ( for a list of needed donations.

We are asking EVERYONE to please make sure you have registered your Kroger Plus card on the Kroger website. Once you’re registered, you can click on the “community” link and choose Cedar Grove Elementary PTO as your charity of choice and link us to your card. Once that’s done, Kroger will donate 5% of every purchase you make back to CGE. In the last 6 months, with only 60 families participating, we have received over $1000! Our goal is to have at least 600 families participating, and to utilize those donations to replace the need for a Spring fundraiser next year. We know that is a goal we can ALL support!

Please make sure you're connected to the resources we have created to make sure CGE parents are staying informed! Join the Cedar Grove Elementary- PTO Facebook group at You can also check out the PTO website at cgepto.weebly.comfor upcoming important dates, current happenings, and EASY ways to support the BEST school in the state of Tennessee! You can always reach us ith any questions or to find an opportunity to help at your child's school.

The Physical Education Department

It can't be the final 9 weeks of school. We are so excited about finishing up the year on a healthy and safe note.

A few important dates from the PE department:

April 20-May 1 will be the mile run for our 3-5 grade students. Our goal is to have all students finish in less than 15 minutes. If you have a chance, before we start testing see where your child stands with this challenge. Springtime is the perfect time to walk the neighborhood, or go to one of the parks and run their courses.

Fifth grade will be visiting the Ford Ice Center on May 3 ,2017, as a reward from The Nashville Predators, this is totally free to our students who have meet a certain criteria- Please support The Nashville Predators as we make a march toward the Stanley Cup Finals!

May 18 is scheduled on the books for Field Day, everyone's favorite day!

The PE department is amazed by our Jump Rope for Heart participation this year! We have a few orders that have come to us late, but at this time we have $4,250.00! This has been one of our better years. Thank you again for your support

As the weather warms up we seem to forget to wear proper shoes to school. We love to see all the cute sandals of the season, however your child will not be able to participate in class with the wrong shoes. If they must wear sandals to school, please think about sending sneakers to keep in their lockers or classrooms.

Happy Spring
