Cereal Box Book Report

For your Quarter 2 book report, create and decorate a real cereal box with illustrations and information related to the book.

FRONT OF BOX: Use a piece of white or very light colored paper to cover the front of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the cover before gluing it on your cereal box.) Include the new name you have created for your cereal and a picture. Make sure the name of your cereal is related to the title of the book and that it actually sounds like it could be a cereal. DO NOT use the exact title of the book for your cereal name! Choose a shape for the cereal as well as colors and ingredients that all relate to your book.

For example: The Cat in the Hat’s cereal might be called “Crunchy Cats”, a toasted oat cereal in the shape of miniature hats.

RIGHT SIDE: Use a piece of white or very light colored paper to cover the right side of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the right side before gluing it on your cereal box.) Make a list of ingredients that includes the major character(s) & the setting. For your major character(s)- write a sentence about each main character. Describe the setting (where/when the story takes place) in complete sentences.

LEFT SIDE: Use a piece of white or very light colored paper to cover the left side of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the left side before gluing it on your cereal box.) Write a summary that describes the main problem and the solution of the book. Try to use language that will “grab” the readers’ attention and make them want to buy your cereal.

BACK SIDE OF BOX: Use a piece of white or very light colored paper to cover the back side of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the back side before gluing it on your cereal box.) Design a game that is based on the story. It can be a puzzle, a words search, a word scramble, a maze, a crossword puzzle, a hidden pictures illustration, or any other fun activity that might be found on the back of a cereal box. Just be certain it includes information from your book!

TOP OF BOX: Use a piece of white or very light colored paper to cover the top of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the top before gluing it on your cereal box.) Include the title, author, number of pages in your book, and number of stars you would give this book if you were a book critic. The maximum number of starts would be 5. You can use the template or create the top of the box yourself just a long as you include all of the things listed above.

PRIZE: Cereal boxes sometimes include a prize. Your prize must be something the main character(s) could have used in the book or something that reminds you of the main character(s). You can even include a picture of the prize on the front of your box to let the reader know what is inside the box.

Make sure you ask Mrs. Lofink if you have any questions. This project is limited only to your own imagination!
