Job Title / KentBoxing Development Officer
Organisation / Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd
Salary / £25,000 (pro rata to 4 days / 28 hours per week)
Location / To be confirmed - Sanctuary Housing Office, Canterbury and hot desk available at Kent Sport, Leisure & Olympics office, Kings Hill
Type of Contract / Fixed term– 1 year contract (It is hoped that this will be extended until March 2013)

JOB PURPOSE

  • To achieve the development objectives of the Amateur Boxing Association of England, Kent Sport Leisure & Olympics, Kent Housing Group and the Southern Counties / Kent Division ABA.
  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of a coordinated boxing development programme aimed at increasing participation and performance in the sport at all agesand groups paying particular attention to supporting the development of voluntary community boxing clubs.
  1. Partnership working and programme development
  2. To work in partnership with key agencies takingadvantage of shared objectives, including:KentSport Leisure & Olympics, local authorities, the voluntary sector, Kent Youth, Youth Offending and Extended Services, School Sports Partnerships and Further and Higher Education establishments
  3. To develop positive working relationships with local Amateur BoxingClubs, and the regionaland divisional boxing associations.
  4. To develop a coordinated boxing development plan for the Countyreflecting the needs of the sport and partner agendas
  5. To facilitate a County boxing development network / forum to inform need, priorities and enhance partnership working
  6. To develop links with Housing Associations, through Kent Housing Group to deliver community projects to benefit residents
  1. Club Development
  2. To support clubs to develop their sustainability whilstenhancing their quality and increasing their capacity to offer boxing opportunities through:
  3. signposting to and / or providing training opportunities for club volunteers
  4. supporting the development of funding bids (capital or revenue) in order to meet the identified needs of clubs
  5. Promoting, guiding and supporting clubs to achieve the ABAE Club Mark
  6. Giving general support and advice to boxing clubs on an ongoing basis
  1. Coach Development
  2. To identify the boxing coaching needs and to monitor on an on-going basis
  3. To create and coordinate opportunities for local residents to become qualified boxing coaches
  4. To support existing boxing coaches to develop their skills and competencies
  1. Development of high quality school and community club links
  2. To develop opportunities for young people to participate in a school / college / communityenvironment and ensure there are exit routes to local boxing clubs
  1. Marketing and Communication
  2. To promote the sport of boxing to all sectors of the community paying particular attention to the needs of the groups identified within the ABAE Whole Sport Plan i.e. women and girls, black and minority ethnic groups, people on low incomes or from deprived communities.

  2. To explore and secure where possible further funding to help achieve and extend the outcomes of the CountyBoxing develop plan objectives.

  2. To monitor progress against set objectives detailed within the boxing development plan
  3. To report progress back to stakeholder partners as appropriate

Person Specification

  1. Demonstrable experience of working in a sports development setting and knowledge of sports development principles.
  1. Knowledge and experience of the sport of amateur boxing or a demonstrable commitment to gain this knowledge and experience.
  1. Significant personal experience of working with or within a sports club or sports organisation environment, and/ or previous demonstrable commitment to grassroots sport.
  1. Ability to take the initiative, to follow though on ideas and activities and drive progress towards identified development objectives.
  1. Experience of developing and maintaining successful partnerships and relationships and ability to work as part of a team.
  1. Experience of identifying and accessing funding to support the achievement of objectives including supporting clubs making funding applications.
  1. Excellent organisational skills; the ability to manage a number of work areas, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  1. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills; the ability to enthuse, persuade, negotiate and influence in the spoken word and in writing.
  1. Ability to work under pressure and to adopt a flexible approach to working methods.
  1. Good IT skills.
  1. Ability and willingness to work unsociable hours as required, for example to meet with sports club and organisations on evenings and at weekends.
  1. Able to demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity, and its practical application.
