Operations Committee – Dan Gubbins

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CIEMSD/files/CIEMSD%20Operations%20Committee%20/Meeting%20Minutes%20111808.doc

·  EMS Teams card – goal is to have all Polk Co. agencies completed by Jan. 1st. Have 10 done and 8 still to go.

·  Polk County MCI plan is outdated. Working on updating. Dispatch centers are on board with this project

·  The goal of the EMS teams cards is to have the dispatch center fill an alarm without any time delay

·  Want to make recommendation to the Fire Chief’s group that dispatch centers follow EMS cards

·  Polk Co dispatch is working on priority dispatching

·  Quarterly publication

o  Need to come up with name

o  Include articles about protocols, new equipment, medication articles, CIEMSD meeting schedule and description of what the CIEMSD group is all about

o  Goal is to have the 1st publication out in March.

o  Have a company to do the layout and design – JM Impressions

o  Will ask for sponsorship money from hospitals to pay for publication

o  Discussion on cost of 1st publication. Gubbins said $1500. Discussion around CIEMSD group paying for 1st publication. Motion by Prowant, 2nd by Light to use $1500 from CIEMSD treasury funds to pay for 1st publication. Motion passed.

o  Keough suggested maybe Mercy and Iowa Health pay for 3 publications and split the 4th. Will check with Broadlawns and maybe Mary Greeley to see if they are interested in participating.

·  Steve Noland – still have $3000+ in EMS system development grant money. Can use grant money to offset NREMT Refresher speaker fees and use CIEMSD money for the publication.

Metro Trauma Committee – Brian Helland/Dan Keough

·  Sponsoring prevention awareness and mock crash events – drunk driving awareness. Last program was at Johnston HS in October. Have been getting so busy with this program that we have formed Iowa Trauma Education Foundation. The cost of each program is approximately $2000

o  Feedback from Johnston school drill was great. Ankeny may be the next program. The group was invited to Indianola and Norwalk also.

·  Pre-hospital reports are good. Still seeing some patients coming without oxygen or IV’s

·  Asked for any concerns to take back to the Metro Trauma committee. Let Dan Keough know if you have concerns.

Metro ED – Dan Keough

·  Discussion around taking an OB patient directly to the floor. Some will deliver OB patient directly to the floor but will take appropriate equipment with them. Will have hospital staff escort them.

·  Discussion of DNR patient. What happens when we are transporting DNR patient and they die on the way to the hospital? ER has to enter patient into the computer and patient will get billed. Maybe have ambulance call medical examiner instead of taking them into ER.

·  ER Directors agreed to bring deceased to hospital and will find somewhere to put them until family arrives. Will not charge patient.

·  Made changes to DSM hospital bypass protocol

o  Have 3 categories – trauma, adult ER, and pediatric ER

o  Only one hospital can go on bypass at a time

o  Will evaluate every 60 minutes.

IDPH – Kirk Schmitt

Mercy – Dan Keough –

·  Comm center is now located on 2nd floor. Using Nextel to communicate between Comm center and charge nurse

·  Have purchased the WAVE system

·  Will be dispatch/comm center for Mercy West Lakes when it opens

·  Will put a monitor in the garage at Mercy Capitol

·  Comm center will decide if patient should go to Mercy Main or Mercy Capitol

·  Have installed drop down plugs in the ambulance garage and spotlight to shine into the backs of ambulances in the bay

·  Will take out sensor by the trauma doors so they don’t open and close all the time when people are putting new sheets on their cots

·  Rex asked if there is wireless in the ER and is it connected to a printer

·  Have set up fast track area for minor incidents. Have changed route into those rooms so you don’t have to take your patient through the waiting room
