Dear Parents and Players,

This note is just to bring you up to speed with what has happened since the last communique about the Gauteng Federation and the changes that are of importance to you.

Since the last letter JSA have decided to keep the “status Quo” of 2014 in place. This means that we will no longer have combined team trials for the Gauteng Province for SA Championships. We will now have to have our own trials within Joburg Judo(JJ) for the SA Championships. This means that the teams selected will compete for JJ and they will receive recognition of their colours and points from us as it was done in the past.

We have also had a terrible year with regards to venues and the booking thereof at Wits. The Champion of Champions scheduled for the 23rd of May at Wits now can no longer take place as they are writing exams during that time. This left us with a predicament and we started searching for alternative venues. We looked at Turffontein on the 23rd of May but they wanted R 11000.00 and that was without the cost of transporting the mats and equipment, this was not financially viable. Randfontein was another alternative that was available but the cost and inconvenience to the JJ community would not have been worth the effort. So we had to take the decision to have the Champion of Champions on Sunday the 17th of May, the day after the Gauteng Open/RRE event. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by having it on the 17th but we were left with no choice as many of the lesser venues were looked at but could not fit the 4 mats we needed for the event and the trials for SA Championships.

JSA also decided this year that the age groups would be combined again as it had been before, thus group 1 (age 9 and 10), group 2 (11 and 12) will fight out for trials and the team will consist of the top players from the trials. This decision was taken at the Council meeting in the beginning of the year and will not be overturned this year at least, but it seems like it will remain like that for quite some time, the main reason for the change back to the way it had been previously, is for the smaller Provinces to also be able to compete in the team events as they do not have the players to fight in the 9year or 10 year or 11year or 12 year group separately.

I hope this letter helps to explain things a bit clearer.

Thank you for your continued support. Let’s get the ball rolling to a great and successful SA Championship in the Boland!!

Kind regards,

P.J. NOTHNAGEL
