Health and Physical Education

The Health and Physical Education program in Central Bucks helps students grow physically and socially. Physical Education classes develop student’s cardiovascular and muscular strength, coordination, problem solving techniques and healthy living habits. Satisfactory completion of Health and Physical Education is a graduation requirement.

National Standards for Physical Education:

Standard 1: Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2: Demonstrate understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Dress Code for Physical Education Class:

  • Gym type shorts (cotton mesh, etc.)
  • T-shirt
  • Sneakers (must be tied)
  • Sweat shirts/pants
  • Swim suit (shorts & t-shirt may be worn over swim suit) and Towel
  • Goggles are suggested (especially for contact users) but not necessary.

Not acceptable: Clothes worn to school, hard-soled shoes or sneakers, anything not in proper taste (i.e. vulgar, drug or alcohol related, innuendo, etc.), team uniform.

Assessment Areas:

Core Assessment(s)

A mandatory core assessment will be assigned that will demonstrate the students competence in a main focus of the course. Each course has its own core assessment that will be assigned by the teacher.

Participation in Daily Class Activities:

This area includes knowledge and development in the health related components of fitness: Flexibility, Cardiovascular, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance and also Agility/Coordination.

Students are required to be active and involved in class making valuable contributions. Students are evaluated based on both their quantity and quality of participation.

All students are to participate in a safe manner. Students will be warned about safety violations and deducted points on the first infraction. If a student receives a second infraction, they will be removed from the activity and receive a “0” for the daily lesson. Safety violations include but are not limited to: body contact, improper use of equipment, and off task behavior.

Participation in Skill Related Fitness Tasks:

Adequate skill knowledge and demonstration of those skills is necessary for the safe conduct of all Physical Education classes. Students will be asked to improve their level of skill and participation.

Knowledge Evaluation:

Occasionally homework may be assigned or quizzes given in class. Team building challenges may also be used to test cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Personal Responsibility and Preparation for class:

Students that do not have the appropriate attire for physical education will lose all daily points. Unprepared classes cannot be made up.

1st unprepared: Parent notification, “0” for class.

2nd unprepared: Administrative detention, 2nd parent notification, “0” for class.

3rd unprepared: Withdrawal minus (W-) on your transcripts/student is placed in study hall.

Cut and Tardy Policy:

1st cut – Loss of all daily points/administrative detention/parent notification.

2nd cut – Loss of all daily points/administrative detention/parent notification.

3rd cut – Withdrawal minus (W-) on your transcript/student is placed in study hall.

3 Tardies = 1 cut

Leaving the gym area early will result in a cut!

Overall Grading: Each PE class is worth 5 points. Deductions occur when students do not meet the course expectations. Additional assignments and points are given are at the discretion of your teacher.

Excused Absences:

Absenteeism will affect achievement.

Students are required to make up missed classes. Absences may be made-up using the at-home workouts which can be found on the P.E. Department’sSchoolwires page. Parent signature is required for the at-home workout as well as an accurate start to finish time of the workout. STUDENTS WILL HAVE ONE WEEK FROM THE TIME HE OR SHE IS ABSENT TO TURN IN THE MAKE-UP TO THEIR PE TEACHER.

School District Policy- Students have the total number

ofdays they are absent to make up the work/class missed.

Any work not made up in that time period will result in a

“0” for that work/class missed.

PE Policy: Students will have 1 week to make up any classes missed. Any work not made up in this time period will result in a “0” for the class. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.

Medical Excuses:

Any student excused for longer than one day, must bring a note from a physician specifically noting limitations and what the student is capable of doing in class (these forms can be found in the nurses office).

Locker Room Procedures:

Students are assigned a locker and are responsible for providing a combination pad lock.

Locks can be purchased in the school store or brought in from home.

Students are prohibited from sharing lockers with other students.

No food or drink (other than water) is allowed in the locker room or gym.

The school and Physical Education department are not responsible for any personal items.

The Physical Education department does not keep a lost found. Items lost should be reported to security.
