2018Dialogue Ambassador Application
Dialogue Program
The purpose of this new program is to provide campus-wide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful dialogue around a specific topic, learn from others’ perspectives and develop concrete skills for emotional regulation, and active listening.
Dialogue Ambassadors
A team of undergraduate student Dialogue Ambassadors will be trained to facilitate community building dialogues on and off campus. Under the direction of the Center for Student Involvement and in collaboration with the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC), Dialogue Ambassadors will co-facilitate 10 scheduled on-campus dialogues each quarter. Additionally, Dialogue Ambassadors will facilitate 8 off-campus community building dialogues through the NCRC Community Heroes Public Forums initiative. The program will begin Winter 2018 and conclude at the end of Fall 2018. Dialogue Ambassadors will receive recurring dialogue facilitation training by experts from the National Conflict Resolution Center.
Dialogue Ambassadors will have the opportunity to develop the following leadership skills: Including but not limited to: facilitation/co-facilitation and training, interpersonal communication, content delivery, working in teams and independently, program assessment, conflict resolution, mediation, active listening, empathy building, increased ability to educate on perspective taking and emotional regulation.
Time Commitment
Winter Quarter through the end of Fall Quarter 2018 (except Summer 2018):
●5-7 hours per week, Winter Quarter through the end of Fall Quarter 2018
●Bi-weekly training meetings, every other Tuesday during Winter Quarter 2018 from 3:30 PM to 4:50 PM
●Quarterly full-day trainings on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
○Saturday, January 27; 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
○Saturday, April 7; 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
○Saturday, September 22; 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
●Bi-weekly meetings (lasting 1 hr, 20 minutes) will continue for Spring & Fall Quarter 2018 based on Dialogue Ambassadors availability.
Dialogue Ambassador Duties and Responsibilities
Dialogue Ambassadors will be responsible for the duties listed below:
●Serve as a positive role model and UC San Diego representative including language, appearance, and manner;
●Facilitate icebreakers, team builders, and general activities;
●Facilitate group activities and discussions in relation to diversity and social justice issues including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious, and class background;
●Facilitate approximately 10 dialogues per quarter as a team on-campus;
●Facilitate 2-3 dialogues per quarter in the local San Diego community;
●Collaborate with team members to develop dialogue topics that address the needs of the on-campus and off-campus community;
●Assist with the coordination of dialogues and distribution of publicity and marketing materials,
●Assist with the set-up, participant check-in, and delivery of all general aspects of the program;
●Maintain communication with CSI Professional Staff and NCRC staff to obtain updates, referrals, and support;
●Assist with the set-up, participant check-in, and delivery of all general aspects of the program;
●Attend bi-weekly Dialogue Staff meetings every other Tuesday during Winter Quarter from3:30 PM to 4:50 PM, except during Summer;
●Attend quarterly trainings on January 27th, April 7th, and September 22nd from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
●Assist with program and learning outcome assessment;
●Prepare and organize program supplies and materials;
●Maintain and enforce program rules as well as UC San Diego policy and procedures;
●Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
●Must pay UC San Diego student services fees for each quarter working and through Fall 2018
●Continuing undergraduate student at UC San Diego through Fall 2018, available to work 3-5 hours per week
●Previous experience with public speaking preferred but not required
●Must be outgoing and feel comfortable greeting people/speaking
●in front of a crowd
●Ability to work in a team environment and independently
●Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
●Strong active listening skills
●Strong interpersonal skills
●Ability to facilitate group activities and discussions in relation to diversity and social justice issues including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious, and class background
●Strong verbal and written communication skills
●Interest in developing empathy in self and others
●Interest in understanding others’ perspectives
●Ease with facilitating conversations
●Detail oriented, organized, dependable
●Strong problem solving skills
●Available to attend quarterly trainings on January 27th, April 7th, and September 22nd from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
●Available to attend bi-weekly Dialogue Staff meetings every other Tuesday during Winter Quarter 2018 from3:30 PM to 4:50 PM

Compensation
●Dialogue Ambassador: $11.85/hr
