What is a choice board? It is an assignment that gives students a choice of activities to complete.

Why use a choice board? Choice boards are used to provide students a way to express their understanding using their strongest learning style. Not all students are writers, some prefer to build models, create videos, etc.

The choice board below presents nine options. Students must complete a minimum of three activities and may earn up to 105 points. The manner in which this is done is the student’s choice. Point values are given, and creative, well-written, professional looking work is expected. Exclusions are found beneath the choice board.

Create a YouTube video to teach all of the following: turgor in plant cells, diffusion, and active transport across cell membranes.
40 points / Use BookBuilder to write a book with illustrations, and a glossary that can instruct 5th grade students about cells, organelles, and their jobs.
33 points / Create a 3D cell mobile. It must be suspended, and must include 3D models of all organelles, scaled to size, and will be presented via iMovie or oral presentation.

Create a peek-a-boo poster comparing plant and animal cells. Students will flip up the organelles to find typed explanations of their functions.
25 points / Write a narrative based on the cell city analogy worksheet. You will answer questions on the worksheet, write, and illustrate your analogy narrative.
25 points. / Bake, frost, and decorate a 3D animal cell cake. Use this to assist you. Bring plates and plastic forks to feed your class.

Create a jigsaw puzzle of a plant and animal cell from your own drawing. Attach it to foam core board, and cut pieces. All organelles must be present, & correctly sized.
25 points / Create a board game to assist the players to learn the organelles, their functions, and the way they work together. Storable, colorful, instructive, and fun.
35 points / Create a brochure, or commercial promoting the three games found here. You must tell what the student will learn, how the game works, and identify +/-.
