JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics

The Celebrate Freedom Foundation®, supported by sponsor Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company,

would like to invite you to submit a nomination for the 2013-2014 JROTC Award for Excellence

in Academics.

Colonial Life is proud to support the Celebrate Freedom Foundation’s educational programs throughout the schools to

help build future leaders for our country, and we are particularly proud to be a part of this prestigious JROTC Award.

This award has been nationally recognized for the last 8 years and is sanctioned by the Department of Defense. It is presented annually to outstanding JROTC Cadets. Winner receive a Certificate of Achievement and a unique uniform ribbon

Who is Eligible?

Cadets actively enrolled in a United States Army, Navy, or Air Force JROTC program are eligible to receive this

award, as authorized by each branch of military service. These students must possess and meet the following

personal characteristics and eligibility criteria:

§ Positive attitude (toward JROTC and school)

§ Outstanding personal appearance (uniform and grooming)

§ Personal attributes such as initiative, judgment and self-confidence

§ Courteous demeanor (promptness, obedience and respect for customs and traditions)

§ Growth potential (demonstrating responsibility, high productivity and adaptability to change)

§ The highest personal and ethical standards, as well as strong positive convictions

§ The potential and desire to pursue a military career

§ Ranking in the top 5% in their JROTC class

§ Rank in the top 15% in academic class

§ Selected by the Senior JROTC Instructor

Q. What is the Award for Excellence in Academics?

A. The JROTC Award for Excellence in Academics is a component of the Foundation’s SOaR™ Education

Program and is proudly sponsored by Colonial Life. The Award is sanctioned by the Department of Defense for

all branches of service. The award consists of a certificate and ribbon and is presented annually to the

outstanding first or second-year (in a 3-year or 4-year program) cadets in Army, Navy or Air Force JROTC.

Q. When do I need to submit my cadet for the award?

A. Celebrate Freedom would like all submissions to be sent as soon as a nominee is chosen, We send out ribbons all year so don’t hesitate to request your ribbon any time of year.

Q. How do I submit my Cadet for the award?

A. The Award for Excellence in Academics can be found on the Celebrate Freedom Foundation website, click SOaR/JROTC. All the documents are linked to this page. The Certificate is located on this page and can be downloaded from there.

Q. How many cadets can receive the award and how much do they cost ?

A. One per unit per academic year and the initial ribbon is free.

Q. How can I get a replacement ribbon?

A. Units should be aware that only one ribbon will be sent per unit per academic year. Replacement ribbons

are available for $12.50 per ribbon which includes postage and handling fees. There is a page on our website to order replacements.
