Case Study: Developing Institutes of Learning (AIA Program Title)

Lake Travis High School, Lake Travis ISD 3324 Ranch Road 620 South, Austin, Texas

This month our program will consist of a case study presentation and tour of Lake Travis ISD’s recently expanded Lake Travis High School in the western outreaches of Austin. The learning objective of the program will focus on a review of the planning process that led to developing institutes of learning. Presentation by Brad Pfluger of Pfluger Associates and by Lake Travis ISD staff members, followed by a tour of the Lake Travis High School. Pfluger Associates Architects (thanks Brad) have graciously offered to sponsor the event and cover the entire cost of the meal.

Report on the Texas CHPS Criteria (AIA Program Title)

Institute of Hospitality & Culinary Arts, Travis High School, Austin ISD 1211 E. Oltorf Street, Austin, Texas

This month our program will consist of a report on the progress of the new assessment tool for green schools, the Texas CHPS Criteria (TX-CHPS). The learning objectives of the program will focus on gaining a more thorough understanding of the resources and tools provided by TX-CHPS. Presentation led by Ms. Kerri Ranney on the Texas CHPS Criteria. Lunch prepared by Chef Rob McDonald and his students; another great full course meal! PBK Architects & The Fowler Law Firm (thanks Kerri & Laura!) have graciously offered to sponsor the event and cover the entire cost of the meal.

The Best of Old & New Facilities: Elgin Administration & Middle School Case Study (AIA Program Title)

Administration Building, Elgin ISD 1002 N. Avenue C, Elgin, Texas

This month our program will consist of a case study presentation and tour of Elgin ISD’s latest projects, the Administration Building (a project that reinvented the old high school) and the new Middle School. The learning objectives of the program will focus on planning processes, adaptive reuse, owner benefits, and efficient design and educational processes. Presentation by Barry Nebhut, AIA, of SHW Group, followed by a tour of the Administration Building and the Middle School. HW Group, LLP (thanks Barry & Tom) have graciously offered to sponsor the event and cover the entire cost of the meal.

Case Study: Nuts & Bolts Tour of Four Points Middle School (AIA Program Title)

Leander ISD 9700 McNeil Road, Austin, Texas

This month our program will consist of a case study presentation and tour of Leander ISD’s new Four Points Middle School. The learning objectives of the program will focus on how to structure a collaborative team, the importance of master planning, phased development and how to work within the City of Austin process, and designing building systems to accomplish results (insulated tilt wall). Presentation by Chuck Fields, AIA, of Fields & Associates Architects, Marty Burger with American Constructors, and Jimmy Disler with Leander ISD, followed by a tour of the Four Points Middle School. Fields & Associates Architects (thanks Chuck!) have graciously offered to sponsor the event and cover the entire cost of the meal.
