Reading Specialist

Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership and coordination to provide an aligned and articulated instructional program in Reading/ELAR..
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree preferred.
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Ability to interpret data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Five years teaching experience in Reading/ELAR
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management
- Direct instructional and curriculum services to meet students’ needs.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs with teachers, principal, and counselors including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.
- Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
- Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
- Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
- Coordinate Reading/ELAR intervention programs
- Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom
- Provide regular intervention with students as needed.
- Ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
- Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of education goals.
- Serve as a resource person to the charter.
- Work cooperatively with principals and staff to define personnel needs regarding instructional management
- Ensure that Curriculum services are supportive of the instructional goals of the district
- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use these findings for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success
- Work with staff to plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum on a systematic basis; include students and community representatives (when appropriate)
- Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators).
- Conduct classroom teacher observations with feedback sessions
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
- Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels..
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
- Compile, maintain, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Assist in communicating information to parent and community members about school programs.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
