We need to change our way of thinking

As Albert Einstein himself once said, the world cannot be changed without changing the way we think. Opened in early April 2017 with a junior professorship sponsored by the Bundesdruckerei (Germany’s state-owned print shop), the Einstein Center Digital Future in Berlin is clearly a good place to start making that change.

The Bundesdruckerei (Germany’s state-owned print shop) is known for being an IT security specialist with a particularly extensive research network, including the Design Research Lab at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam. The Bundesdruckerei is now also supporting the Einstein Center Digital Future in Berlin with both a funded junior professorship and IT infrastructure resources, placing it alongside the many Berlin universities, institutions, industrial companies, startups and political representatives backing the project. “The Einstein Center Digital Future is unique in Germany in terms of its size, interdisciplinary nature, concept and composition,” confirms Ulrich Hamann, CEO of the Bundesdruckerei. “Its establishment boosts the status of Berlin as Germany’s key hub for digital development and as a driving force in the path to a fully digitalized society.

As an IT security specialist with a strong commitment to social responsibility and a business interest in forward-looking innovation, the Bundesdruckerei is supporting the Einstein Center with a junior professorship in ‘Security in Distributed Systems’ to help push ahead with digitalization and Industry 4.0.”

As part of its contribution to secure, “Made in Germany” digitalization, the Bundesdruckerei is also providing the Einstein Center with a GoID access platform and a secure Bdrive cloud storage system. The high-security GoID card with integrated crypto chip and fingerprint sensor serves as a multifunctional corporate ID pass and part of a platform that facilitates physical entry and access to IT systems, system components and networks of organizations. It is also possible to integrate additional functions such as user-friendly encryption, payments, digital signatures and machine activation. Meanwhile, Bdrive delivers new levels of cloud security and reliability by means of the security concept known as RAIC (Redundant Array of Independent Clouds).

No more NAS-ty surprises!

At CeBIT 2017 in Hannover, U.S. manufacturer ioSAFE celebrated the market launch of its fire- and water-resistant NAS systems in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries.

During the German launch of its fire- and water-resistant NAS systems, Californian manufacturer ioSafe demonstrated the robustness of its equipment in fine style. As a co-exhibitor with Synology at CeBIT 2017 in Hannover, ioSafe exhibited an NAS that seemed to have been completely destroyed in a fire. However, despite the clear damage the equipment had suffered, the American experts were still able to restore all the data that had been stored on it.

The fire- and water-resistant NAS systems from ioSafe are based on technology from Synology and are accordingly powerful and easy to manage. The manufacturer guarantees fire protection for 30 minutes at 840 degrees Celsius and water protection for up to three days at a depth of three meters. An optional floor mount kit also enables users to bolt down their equipment to protect against theft. What’s more, an ioSafe NAS comes with a professional data recovery service that restores data, if necessary, on a forensic basis and in strict compliance with German data protection regulations. The reconstructed data is then made available to the customer as quickly as possible on a free replacement device. MediaCom IT-Distribution GmbH has been selected as the exclusive partner for establishing the sales structure in Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries. “We are extremely excited to be expanding our European presence and are looking forward to working with our partner to introduce ioSafe as the first step in that process,” said Robb Moore, ioSafe CEO.

Breakfast Club

acmeo, specialist distributor of managed services, system house organization and cloud products, racked up its volume of product evaluations during CeBIT 2017. The company’s trade fair appearance has clearly paid off.

The breakfast club that the company hosts for its trade fair visitors before heading together to CeBIT – a ritual that is establishing itself as something of a launch-day tradition – already set the scene for success. And the acmeo stand at Planet Reseller once again proved the ideal forum for making direct contact with system houses and IT service providers. Not only that, but acmeo nailed the needs of the channel with its focus on managed services, IT security, cloud infrastructure, unified communications and system house software.

The quality of visitors to the stand and spot-on choice of topics were clearly reflected in the number of leads generated at the event: “We recorded almost 14 percent more product evaluations,” Udo Schillings, head of marketing and manufacturer management at acmeo, is pleased to report.

Firm-favorite features were neatly complemented by some additional new highlights, such as the Cloud Lounge, where system houses were given the chance to explore specific application scenarios under the guidance of an acmeo expert. “Our discussions with system house partners made it clear that the trend in this channel remains set towards managed services and their expansion. We offer our partners technical and sales support, contract and marketing frameworks and seminars on implementing service contracts in this field,” Schillings explains. Visitors were also keen to talk about automating internal system house processes. The interoperability of ERP, ticket and IP telephony systems, for example, offers great potential for systems houses to optimize their processes, an area in which manufacturing partners are joining forces with acmeo to drive forward future developments.

Smiles all round

Document management and ECM expert codia Software GmbH is pleased with the high volume of talks it conducted at CeBIT 2017, with existing customers and new leads alike.

codia Software GmbH from Meppen in northwestern Germany is among the many satisfied exhibitors who can rate CeBIT 2017 a great success. The experts in document management and ECM conducted numerous talks with existing and potential new customers at the DATABUND pavilion and also succeeded in convincing many skeptical visitors of the benefits of electronic filing and processing using the d.3ecm system.

The ease with which the d.3ecm system enables ECM solutions to be integrated into all standard specialist procedures and application systems, such as Microsoft Outlook, clearly went down a storm. The crowd of inquisitive visitors at the stand included State Secretary for IT Sabine Smentek, who is currently involved in modernizing Berlin’s administrative procedures. Above all, she was interested in combining electronic document management with mobile solutions. The President of the State Parliament of Lower Saxony, Bernd Busemann, himself born in the company’s region, welcomed the continuing positive development of codia Software GmbH and warmly congratulated the company on the six new jobs it has created since the start of 2017.
