CDH PROGRAMMES OF IDA ALAPPUZHA – JAN to JUNE 2009
- Fluorosis detection and treatment camp
Alappuzha district is a known endemic area for high flouride content in drinking water. Based on the preliminary survey conducted by IDA Alappuzha at ThiruvambadyHigherSecondary School, Alappuzha, it was found that there was mild to moderate dental flourosis in almost 90% of the 2500 school children examined.
Dental Flourosis is a condition in which there is yellow to brown stains on the teeth, especially the anterior teeth. This presents a great socio-psychologicalproblem; as children in their growing age become aware of their appearance and are affected psychologically leading to poor motivation and acceptance. The only treatment is cosmetic correction with composite/ ceramic veneers which is unaffordable to children of lower socio economic category.
This venture by IDA Alapuzhawill be asmall step in combating this social problem called dental flourosis by providing free diagnosis and treatment as well as increasing awareness about prevention to school children of lower socio economic strata.
This project was conducted on 02.07.2009 at St Mary’s VattayalSchool, Alappuzha.
A press meet was conducted by IDA Alappuzha on 30.06.2009 informing the media about this event and it received wide acceptance and coverage.
50 doctors participated in the programme, 500 school students were screened and 150 school students having severe dental fluorosis received composite veneering treatment

- Income tax returns filed on 31st July 2009 – IDA Alappuzha being the first branch in Kerala to do so.
- 4 issues of the official bulletin of IDA Alappuzha- Venice Voice- released.
- 7 new members joined IDA Alappuzha this year taking the membership strength to 63
- A total of 50 members joined IDA Hope
- Almost 50% of members have joined IMAGE
- A total of 11 executive meetings and two EOGM s were conducted
- Ladies’ wing installation on March 29th 2009 at Hotel Pagoda Resorts
The Grand State CDE Hosted by IDA Alappuzha:
- Whopping 181 registrations – highest number in a Kerala State CDE till date
- Combined fun with education – introduced a novel concept of infotainment with a DJ evening after the CDE
- A CD of the event distributed to all participants
Thus, rightfully the most successful and biggest CDE program ever in the history of IDA Kerala state
