CBD, BloomingTea & Me

CBD is short for cannabidiol (rhymes with “Canada dial,” but with a b) and is one of the 85+ cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant. The most well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). While cannabis contains both THC and CBD, the compounds have different effects. THC is well-known for the mind-altering "high" it causes. CBD is not psychoactive. It does not quickly change the state of mind of the person who uses it, or produce any kind of euphoria.

Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant, cannabis sativa, but they are very different. Over the years, marijuana farmers have selectively bred their plants to be very high in THC and other compounds that interested them, either for a smell or an effect they had on the plant's flowers. On the other hand, hemp farmers have not tended to modify the plant. It is these hemp plants that are used to create CBD oil. Hemp has been legal to grow in the US since 2014, under provisions of Section 7606 of the Agriculture Act of 2014, provided the plants contain less than .03% THC.

Hemp-derived CBD should be about as controversial as broccoli and much less controversial than say, donuts (after all, everyone knows that donuts aren’t good for you.) But broccoli doesn’t have a “sister plant” that people have been getting high on for the last 10,000 years; so unfortunately, there is quite a bit of confusion regarding the legal status of hemp-derived CBD. In June 2017, the Indiana State Excise Police confiscated CBD oil from a Fresh Thyme store in Greenwood, claiming it was illegal to sell in Indiana. In August, they seemingly changed their policy. This is a statement given by the Excise Police to WTHR on August 14: “After a review of the situation, the Indiana State Excise Police will not confiscate CBD oil products from stores unless the products clearly violate Indiana law”

As our CBD is derived from legally grown agricultural hemp and contains less than .3% THC (the legal maximum,) there is no reason to think it is anything but legal. In this regard we are also taking the lead from several well established national and local stores that are, after a brief time-out, choosing to stock and sell hemp-derived CBD products.

CBD is thought by many to be an effective treatment of the symptoms of epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, MS, Huntington’s movements, Parkinson’s, stroke, arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, acne, even cancer cell growth, and to reduce stress and anxiety, improve symptoms of PTSD, help with insomnia, reduce inflammation and help with muscle pain, and even to promote general wellbeing in perfectly healthy people. There’s more- but that’s already quite a list. Although it is being studied extensively, at this point, very few of its purported benefits have been established scientifically. Opinions range from folks thinking that CBD is snake oil to adherents of putting it in the water supply. It is generally agreed that CBD is harmless (notwithstanding possible interactions with other drugs- so consult your physician) non habit forming, and needs to be studied more.

At BloomingTea, our role is not to suggest to you that you take CBD or tout its health benefits or act as though much is certain about it. We recognize that there is an immense interest in CBD, and a market expected to grow by 500% in the next several years. In response to this demand, we seek to supply our customers with the best product available on the market, at a very competitive, if not the lowest price, and perhaps most importantly, provide CBD at this affordable price at any quantity- from a single 25mg dose to a month’s supply--in other words- to have an efficient, flexible and customer friendly delivery system. So if you think CBD may be for you, we can put some of our water soluble CBD in your tea today or sell you a month’s supply to take home--or anything in between, all at $3 per active 25mg, or less.
