3. Minutes of the Council Meeting of June 15th 2008: Motion to pass minutes Jack South, seconded Mike McGregor. Passed.

4. Business Arising from Minutes of June 15th 2008

Cheque to Legacy House $950 for venue hire November 2007 – June 2008.

5. Confirmation of decisions made since June 15th 2008

None.

6. Treasurer's Report

Motion: That the CAWA Council approve the attached list of payments made since the CAWA

Council Meeting of April 6th 2008.

- Cheques Paid from the 08/06/08 to 17/07/08 attached.

- Report on current position- Balance $20,740.77 Sheet attached.

- CAWA Audit 2007/8 – being produced.

- CAWA Budget 2009 – being Produced.

Motion: That the JCC Account 114-0037674 be closed and funds to be consolidated into the CAWA account.

-Gaynor to purchase a box of chocolates for Laura in way of a thank you for her help with MYOB.

9. Junior Tournament Coordinator’s Report

-WA Junior Lightning Championships – 23 under 12 players and 18 under 18 players.

Thanks to the Williams Family for providing transport for the tables and chairs.

- Midland Christian Blitz – Jack South to produce the registration form.

- Willetton tournament - Venue booked, Jack South to contact organisers.

10. Junior Chess

- Junior Training Squads – (Peter Roza) South Perth starting soon on Monday evenings.

-Selection of WA Team for 2009 Nationals – State Junior Team has been selected.

All have been notified and all have accepted.

Congratulations to Yita Choong, Ryan Sam, Chris Boni, Veronica Williams, Tayla Wood, Verity Williams, Caleb Thomas, Chirag Sohara and William Williams.

Gaynor Wood has produced an information sheet to be sent to team members, along with a date for a Team meeting, to discuss fundraising, coaching etc. Haydn Barber has approached Darryl Johansen on behalf of the CAWA to coach the Junior Team at the Nationals. Mike McGregor to announce the selected team on the CAWA website.

- Lathlain Junior Club – Haydn Barber attended the Club.

11. Legacy House

- Hire of tables & chairs for the State Junior Lightning Tournament $100.

12. Membership Officer’s Report

- Current status – 78 Seniors and 125 Juniors

13. CAWA Patron

-Contact with Cheryl Edwardes has been unsuccessful, suggested we search for a new patron.

- Still no Property Officer.

17. Tournament Coordinator's Report

- Visit by GM Darryl Johansen – Reports by Haydn Barber attached.

All participants were impressed. It was noted for all future similar events more advertising and publicity is needed.

Darryl visited Armadale Jnr Chess Club, Aquinas College, Lathlain Jnr Chess Club, Maccabi Jnr Chess Club, Kingsley Jnr Chess Club and Perth Chess Club.

- 2008 WA Championships – 29 entries received. Five people were selected to handle any disputes, Triston Byod, Dave Ellis, Tim Hare, Gordon Dunlop, Stephanous Kuraniwan.

Michael Horstmann was selected to judge Best Game.

- Yita Choong situation – resolved.

- 2009 Calendar – Draft document has been completed by Haydn Barber.

-Motion: That a discount for entry will be given to Country Players who travel >200 kms.

18. Harris/Edwardes Trophy Coordinator’s Report

- Report attached.

19. CAWA Newsletter

- Production – August edition nearly completed.

- Distribution – Mike McGregor has taken possession of the copier to print and post copies

members without an email address.

20. ACF Items

-Haydn Barber attended a four hour phone conference.

- Olympiad Appeal – Promotions to go out. Mike McGregor to email all CAWA Members. Fundraising was briefly discussed.

- Australian Open 2009 – Taking place in Sydney.

- National Conference 2009 – Taking place in Sydney.

- Hosting future Australian Championships in Perth – CAWA approached to host the Australian School Championships in 2010 and the Australian Junior Championships in 2011.

- Outstanding documentation – in production.

-CAWA AGM – 14th September at Legacy House following the Lightning Tournament and State Champion prize giving.

-Next CAWA Council Meeting – Date to be set sometime after the AGM
