Cato Middle College High School Student/Parent Commitment Agreement

  1. All Cato Middle College High School students will adhere to all CMS and CPCC rules, regulations and policies, including the CMS Code of Student Conduct. Failure to comply will result in the student returning to their Home School.
  2. Cato Middle College High School will operate on the Central Piedmont Community College Academic Year Calendar but also within the requirements of the CMS calendar policies.
  3. CMCHS students will enroll in a minimum of four courses each semester including CPCC and CMS courses.
  4. Students who earn a grade of “D” or fail a CMS or CPCC course during two consecutive semesters will automatically forfeit their eligibility for the Cato Middle College Program and will return to their assigned Home School.
  5. Students will follow the CPCC textbook return policy.
  6. CMS will pay all costs related to tuition and textbooks, however additional minimal costs may be required for lab fees and other supplemental materials that are not covered by CMS in which the student will have to pay.
  7. CMCHS students are not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities at their CMS Home School. CMS Policy does allow CMCHS students to participate in athletics, cheerleadingand marching band at their Attendance ZoneHome School. Neither Cato Middle College High School nor CPCC will modify their academic schedule to accommodate participation in athletics, cheerleading or marching band.
  8. School clubs will be limited to Student Government, Yearbook and National Honor Society.
  9. Cato Middle College High School does not have a cafeteria, but has meals delivered from a nearby CMS School when CMS schools are in session. Students may order lunch as Free, Reduced or Pay. CPCC Cato Campushas a Learning Lounge/Coffee Shop with limited mealitems available at a cost to the student.
  10. CMCHS students are required to be at school only while their classes are in session. CMCHS students may be on a CPCC campus when CMCHS staff is not.
  11. Students are expected to attend all assigned CPCC and CMCHS classes.
  12. A priority will be placed on assigning CMCHS students to CMCHS teachers/courses for all courses required for graduation from high school.
  13. No CPCC courses assigned to a student will be dropped without the approval of the CMCHS principal/counselor.
  14. Students are responsible for dependable transportation to and from school. For students requiring transportation to and from CMCHS, CMS will provide monthly Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus and rail passes at no charge.
  15. I am familiar with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (you can googleFERPA) and how it impacts my ability as a parent to have access to my child’s college academic record as well as access to my child’s college teachers.

CATO MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL (CMCHS) AT CENTRAL PIEDMONT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Cato Middle College High School is a CMS Cooperative Innovative High School located on the Cato Campus of Central Piedmont Community College and is a part of the North Carolina Career and College Promise Program. Cooperative Innovative High Schools are one of three Career and College Promise programs and are located on college campuses. Enrollment is limited to 100students per grade level and students must be a resident of Mecklenburg County. A Home School or non-public high school student must submit a transcript and official test scores from an approved assessment test.

Cato Middle College High School serves high school students in grades eleven and twelve. All CMCHS courses are Honors and/or Advanced Placement level courses. Students enrolled at CMCHS will take courses required for high school graduation while taking college courses towards a post-secondary certificate, college diploma, associate’s degree, and/or industry certification. CMCHS students are required to enroll in a minimum of four courses per semester including high school and college courses. All CPCC college courses and books are at no charge to the CMCHS students.

Reminder: CMCHS operates on a combined CMS/CPCC Calendar. Fall Semester usually begins around the first week of August. Graduation is usually the third week of May. There may be some days when students only have CPCC classes or CMCHS classes. All classes operate on a college semester schedule.

CATO MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL CRITERIA FOR ENROLLMENT

  • Eligible students must be currently enrolled in CMS or must complete a CMS Future Enrollment Form for the 2013-2014school year. (This form is located on the CMS website with directions).
  • Students admitted to CMCHS who are not currently in CMS will be required to provide a final official high school transcript from their current school on or before June 15th or their admission to CMCHS will be denied.
  • Eligible students must have a minimum 2.5 unweighted cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).
  • Eligible students must have an excellent behavior/discipline record for the past two years.
  • Eligible students must have an excellent attendance record.
  • Eligible students must have earned enough credits to be a rising eleventh grader.
  • Eligible students must have earned a Level III or higher on all previously taken End-of-Course Tests.
  • Completed and passed Algebra I, Algebra II and/or Geometry, Biology, World History, Health/PE, and Civics and Economics.
  • Completed a minimum of one year of foreign language with a preference of two years of the same foreign language.

A CMS LOTTERY PROCESS WILL BE USED FOR SELECTION

1. Before completing the CMCHS application, you must complete a written application to CPCC. The Central Piedmont Community College ADMISSIONS INFORMATION FORM can be found on the Cato Middle College High School Website. (This form must be completed in order to receive a CPCC Student ID# which is required in order to go to #3 below).

2. Submit the completed CPCC ADMISSIONS FORM to the Registration/Information Desk at CPCC Cato Campus. If you can wait, you will be assigned a CPCC Student ID # immediately. If you cannot wait, you may return the following day to receive your CPCC ID #. The CPCC ID# is required in order for you to take the CPCC Accuplacer Tests. You must have CPCC ID # before you can take the practice Accuplacer Test and before you can take the required Accuplacer Test.

3. Before taking the CPCC Accuplacer Tests, go to . Please read the information about preparing for the Accuplacer Tests, practice tests, the Testing Center hours of operation and instructions on what to do in the event that you do not pass all four tests and wish to retest. It is strongly recommended that you complete all practice tests before reporting to the testing center for testing.

4. Take the CPCC Accuplacer Test at any CPCC Campus. Minimum Required Scores on the Accuplacer Tests:

5. If you pass all four Accuplacer Tests, please attach a copy of the scores to your CMCHS application and move to #6 below.

If you do not pass all four sections of the Accuplacer, you may take one retest for each test(s) you did not pass. See CPCC AccuplacerRetest Policy. Once you have successfully passed all four Accuplacer Tests, please attach your scores to your CMCHS application and move to #6 below.

8. Completed CMCHS Applications must be hand delivered and signed in with Ms. Stiles at the CMCHS school office Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.beginning Monday, January 7, 2013. All Applications must be received by 3:00 on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

All eligible applicants will participate in a lottery for the one hundred seats available for rising eleventh graders. If needed, a wait pool will be used to fill future vacancies. If you are selected for admission to CMCHS, you will be contacted to begin the registration process for 2013-2014.
