Governors are seeking to appoint an AAT qualified (or equivalent)Financial Controller with a proven track record to lead our dedicated and hardworking Finance Team. Along with the Academy Business Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in the management of our FinanceDepartment. This will provide you with a valuable portfolio of experience as you will be required to work within the constraints of various regulatory bodies.

You will demonstrate a commitment to strategic leadership and vision. In return you will have ample opportunity to develop your role and take on additional responsibilities. As Financial Controller you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the schoolsaccounting records, processes and financial systems.

The successful candidate will have:

  • An AAT qualification (desirable)
  • At least threeyears’ experience as a Financial Controller
  • Proven Competence in Payroll/Experience inCredit Control
  • Experience of using finance software and a willingness to learn new systems
  • An excellent level of IT literacy including MS Excel and MS Outlook

As Financial Controller, you must have excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail. You will be analytical and organised, with a technical mind-set, strong problem solving abilities and a proactive approach.

In addition to line management responsibilities, your role will also require you to have regular contact (face to face/phone/email) with a range of stakeholders including students, parents, colleagues, external auditors and agencies. This is a key post and your skills will be harnessed to contribute to shaping the future of our high performing Department. PURPOSE OF JOB
The Financial Controller is responsible for:
  • ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our Academy’s accounting records and financial systems.
  • overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Academy’saccounts, maintain financial ledgers and a range of accounting processes.
  • ensuring that appropriate systems are used and have accountability/responsibility for cash management and treasury duties.
  • overseeing the processing of all sales and purchase invoices, as well as making sure accounts are reconciled each month.
  • liaising with external auditors/advisors and be proactive in ensuring queries regarding accounts are resolved.
  • have responsibility for managing the payroll process including HMRC, Pensions,Auto Enrolment and associated payments.
You will provide professional accounting and financial management services to include:
  • An accounting service including closure of accounts
  • Assistance in budget preparation, budget forecasts, financial plans
  • Regular payroll and budget monitoring, financial controls and advice service
KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
•Lead Finance Team; managing performance and developing skills
•Manage the accounting and systems support for the whole finance function; planning, controlling and prioritising activities
•Manage balance sheet reconciliations, including payroll accounts, ensuring financial controls are maintained. Set up formal balance sheet controls for review and sign off
•Prepare monthly P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow reports
•Calculating the monthly depreciation charge
•Ensure compliance with Auto Enrolment – Pensions
•HMRC VAT regulations/VAT returns
•Compliance with finance regulations
•Implementation of audit reports
•Implementation of automated reconciliation systems and processes, replacing manual reconciliation processes
•Manage the data integrity of the Financial Systems and documentation; initiating data cleanse exercises and improving data entry processes and controls
•Support the review of Chart of Accounts structure to streamline and simplify
•Provide ad hoc financial reporting and management information support to Academy Business Manager, including preparation for Governors Meetings

NATURE AND SCOPE
  • The role may involve participation at Academy events and opportunities to attend meetings away from the Academy offices.
