Job Role

Casual Events Crew Team Leaders are essential in delivering the RAF Association presence at Airshows and other public events where you will -

  • Help maximise sales at the events.
  • Sell a range of excellent RAF and aviation themed merchandise.
  • Deliver a fantastic customer service experience to every customer, sharing your warm personality and genuine enthusiasm for our products.
  • Take pride in making sure that the display looks amazing and stocks are replenished quickly.

Responsibilities

People Management

  • To lead, manage and motivate all temporary events staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for the professional behaviour of their team.
  • Ability to identify opportunities at Airshows to maximise the income generation and visibility of the RAF Association.
  • Issue H&S brief and risk assessments for all staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring that good working practices and policies are adhered to at all times.

Customer Service

  • Serve customers to the highest standards, providing an exceptional customer service experience.
  • Ticket, arrange and display merchandise to promote sales.
  • Ensure that the display layout looks presentable, tidy, clean and vibrant.
  • Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
  • Advise customers on products and up-sell where possible.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
  • Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
  • Exchange merchandise for customers and accept returns.
  • Bag or package purchases.

Income Generation

  • Manage cash and credit card receipts in conjunction with finance policies.
  • Compute sales prices, total purchases, receive and process cash or credit payment.
  • Operate the cash register / handle money / give correct change.
  • Recommend innovative initiatives to raise income.
  • Implementation of planned stock checks.

Working Conditions

  • Flexibility to travel extensively with regular nights away from home (there is substantial weekend working in this position).
  • During the peak season this role may involve some long working days that require responsible planning to minimise and manage traveling and travelling time appropriately.
  • Working at events in the summer will mainly be out of doors with varying weather conditions.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, (to include serviceability and cleanliness) safe movement of Mobile Exhibition Trucks (MET) around the country and the safe upkeep of all event/exhibition material.
  • Manual handling is required to lift and carry boxes up to 20kg in weight with and without maintained and serviceable carrying aids and in accordance with the manual handling guidance provided by the HSE.
  • Responsible for driving a 3.5 tonne vehicle around the country, setting up for an event, undertaking risk assessments before and during an event.
  • The nature of the work entails a great deal of manual dexterity in setting up and breaking down at airshows/events.
  • Preparation of vehicles, exhibition equipment and merchandise stock in readiness for airshow/events.

General

  • Capable in using initiative to identify problems and contingency plan as well as be able to resolve the unexpected when at an event.
  • Expected to use all opportunities to raise the profile of the RAF Association and its work, encourage fundraising and membership.
  • Inform supervisors when equipment is not working properly and when supplies are getting low.
  • Required to participate in and contribute as appropriate to team meetings.
  • Required to co-operate and liaise with departmental and inter-departmental colleagues.
  • Required to respect confidentiality applying to all RAFATRAD activities.
  • Required to attend all mandatory training identified by manager or RAF Association.
  • Keep up to date with all current legislation and best practice guidelines relevant to sphere of responsibility.

  • Report to managers any faulty equipment, hazards or operational difficulties affecting safe systems of working, personal safety or well-being.
  • Record and report any accidents, incidents, near misses and significant events.

  • Ensure that employees and volunteers are acquainted with regulation driving hours and respective points of law regarding the handling and use of the Mobile Exhibition Trailer (MET) and any authorised hire vehicle when utilised for outside events.

Essential

Previous people management experience

Knowledge of merchandising and basic retail practices.

Experience of cash handling and recording credit card receipts.

Comfortable when dealing with people in all types of situations and specifically with the public at airshow/events.

Evidence of the safe handling of financial and revenue data.

Confident to work enthusiastically with staff and volunteers at all levels, and hands on.

Experience of driving large transit type vehicles up to 3.5T.

Full driving licence (max 3 points) & minimum age 21 years old (for insurance purposes).

Capable of managing the maintenance and safe movement of METS around the country and the safe upkeep of all event/exhibition material.

Ensuring vehicles meet all legal requirements.

Able to work unsocial and long hours during the busy Air Show season.

Experience of undertaking risk assessments.

Fit to undertake manual handling associated with this role.

Desirable

Awareness of the work of the RAF Association.

Knowledge of the Royal Air Force, its structure and its history.

D1 on driving license or PSV.
