The Carrefour Foundation

The Carrefour Foundation, founded in 2000, has always supported local projects, demonstrating its closeness to the environment in which it operates, without however forgetting projects with a wider national and international scope carried out with top-notch partners, especially with regard to solidarity food, humanitarian aid and intervention in emergency humanitarian situations. With a budget of over 7.7 million euros, in 2015 the Carrefour Foundation financed more than 70 projects in over 15 countries. Among the many initiatives undertaken in Italy:

Organisation of the third international collection with the Food Bank in 2015. Around 10 million meals collected in 10 countries with more than

2,200 Carrefour sales outlets involved.

Financing of a storage cold room for the Food Bank with the aim of collecting the food surpluses generated in Expo:

50 tonnes collected by 34 partner restaurants and stands, to be redistributed to 15 local NGOs in the form of meals for 6,600 disadvantaged people.

At the time of the major floods in Benevento in October 2015, Carrefour and the Carrefour Foundation supplied the

Caritas Foundation with basic necessities to help the victims concerned.

Donation of foodstuffs and basic necessities in favour of associations, canteens for the poor and populations struck by natural disasters (for example: in collaboration with the Lombardy Region reception centres were set up in the areas affected by the Abruzzo earthquake.2]

The Carrefour Foundation encourages solidarity “a click away”: having made food a means of combatting exclusion, it supports solidarity initiatives created on the Internet and on all the social networks. In addition to offering new, greater visibility to associations, these new means of solidarity facilitate new kinds of cooperation. Thus the Carrefour Foundatin has launched “clicsolidali”: in France, Belgium, Italy and Argentina, operations that have enabled the commitment and mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of visitors in favour of a local solidarity project.
