Carolina Theatre Field Trip
On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, all 6th grade students are invited to attend a field trip to the Carolina Theatre in Durham. Students will watch a performance of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. Buses will leave Rogers-Herr at 10:30am and return by 1:15pm. We will eat lunch at a park near the theatre.
The cost for the field trip is $5 per student. We welcome chaperones at no cost (we appreciate your support!). Chaperones will need to drive separately. Checks should be made payable to Rogers-Herr Middle School. Full payment MUST be returned to school by Wednesday, January 18 in order to ensure your place.
If you would be interested in making a donation for a student in need or would like to chaperone the field trip, please indicate so on the permission form. All chaperones must be approved by the DPS Human Resources department prior to the field trip. If you are interested in attending as a chaperone, but have not yet filled out the criminal background check online, please do so at dpsnc.net as soon as possible.
You can find out more about the show at http://www.carolinatheatre.org/events/hypnotic-brass-ensemble.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble Length: 60 minutes
The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is a family band consisting of seven blood brothers who began their musical training at the tender ages of 4 and 5 by their father, jazz trumpeter/band leader Kelan Phil Cohran (Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Sun Ra). Although the group’s early musical training encompassed primarily elements of instrumental performance, the brothers were personally being exposed to the music of their own generation (hip-hop, rock, reggae, to name a few) and absorbed these components into the cosmic jazz style of their father.
