Second Floor Construction

Many people have pitched in to get the second floor ready for decorating. Each room will be decorated by a different group for display. The target date was December 3 (Light Up Carlisle night). Andrew Harder has been hired to do the trimming. He has made up trim that matches the rest of the woodwork perfectly. He has installed the new upstairs railing. It looks great. His work has been excellent.

Painted Lady

CAHS was fortunate to receive this donated stove from the Jim and Jennifer Miller family. Arden Owens generously loaned us his time and talent and gave the old girl a coat of much-needed paint . To complete the transformation, Arden worked on the tedious task of painting the silver trim. We think she looks great! Thanks Arden!

Information about the stove

The original Round Oak Stove was developed about 1886 and over the years many models of this stove were sold . The first stove was quite plain with an ash door that lifted off. A hinged ash pit door was added in 1887 and various other improvements and embellishments were made over the years.

P.D. (Philo D.) Beckwith and Round Oak stove were to Dowagiac, Michigan what Henry Ford and the Model T were to Detroit. The Round Oak stove put Dowagiac, Michigan on the map. It was considered the best all-around heating stove in the world.; with a Round Oak you could have as much or as little heat as you desired and burn any kind of fuel--wood, soft coal or hard coal.

CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

The holidays are fast approaching and another CAHS year is almost gone. The last 12 months have been very successful for our organization. Our membership iscontinuing to grow, we madetremendous progresson the Randleman House and wehave brought a number of interesting and historic programs to the Carlisle area. I am so very proud of the countlesshours ofhard work by our members. Thank you to each and every one of you who have participated. We could not continue without your support! Some new and exciting events are being planned for 2012.The Civil War event will be repeated and should be bigger and better than before. With luck we can make this a signature event for our area and draw visitors from miles around. Please consider being on one of the event planning committees. Your input is needed.

We are working on a special event for the Light Up Carlisle weekend (December 3rd and 4th). At that time there will be a grand unveiling of the completed second floor! All the rooms will be decorated for the holidays by different teams in different themes. You won't want to miss seeingwhat they have dreamed up. We will be charging a nominal fee to tour the rooms. All proceeds will go to the Paint- the -House campaign.Last minute renovations are being completed as we speak.
Hope to see you there! Melody
