PERSON SPECIFICATION
Carer Wellbeing Support Worker, Learning disabilities and challenging needs
Experience of:
- Working with carers of people with an learning disabilities and/or challenging needs preferably in a specialist health or social care environment
- Organising and facilitating groups/assisting with events
- Researching and providing a range of accessible, relevant and quality information appropriate to the level of need
- Ability to think and respond positively and creatively when presented with potential challenges when liaising with other professionals
- Effectively managing time-focused casework
- Providing person centred, active listening and support
Knowledge:
- Understanding of carers issues and needs and Core Principles for working with carers
- Understanding of carers issues when caring for a person with a learning disability.
- Knowledge of the roles of statutory and voluntary social care and health services, personalisation and carer choice and control
- Specialist knowledge and understanding of specific issues that impact on carers of people with a learning disability, including but not limited to, issues around vulnerability and mental capacity.
- Understanding of the needs of under-represented and diverse community groups
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written skills and ability to relate to people, including at times of emotional need
- Written English skills at GCSE level or equivalent
- Good IT skills (Word, Excel, email, Internet) and able to use database/Customer Relationship Management system
- Good self-organisation, time-management and able to plan and prioritise own work
- Able to maintain records and produce letters and written reports
- Strong diplomacy and assertiveness skills

- Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team, with a degree of flexibility
- Passion for working on behalf of carers
- Ability to deal sensitively with complex issues and situations
- Commitment to the CSWS vision and values and excellent customer service
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work boundaries
- A ‘people person’, open to new ideas with a positive attitude to new ways of working
- Able to effectively manage own emotional response to work
Other:
- Holds a full UK Driving Licence and has access to a vehicle during working hours
