CURRICULUM EXPECTATIONS

VISUAL PRESENTATION OF YOUR CAREER PATH/ACTION PLAN

Part A: The First Three to Five Years in Your Ideal Job

  • What is your ideal job/career?
  • Describe some typical tasks that you have to do in the first three to five years on the job.
  • What are your responsibilities?
  • Is there special equipment you would be trained to use?
  • What are your skills, interests and values that fit well with the career you have chosen?
  • What is the salary range for someone your profession? (e.g. How much would you make just starting out? How much could you make near the end of your profession?)
  • Is the job in demand? Is there a lot of competition for your career? Look to the SASK JOBS websites or myBlueprint.ca and see if there are limited, fair, good, or excellent job prospects?
  • What kind of hours might you expect to work each day/week?
  • Are there any challenges/dangers/risks you have to consider with this line of work? Explain.

Part B: On-the-job Training, Apprenticeship, College or University

  • What Apprenticeship, College or University program is needed to land your dream job? Describe the name of the Training Centre, College or University. Identify the name of the program? (e.g. Police Foundations program at Georgian College’s Orillia Campus)
  • How long will you be in the program?
  • How much does tuition, books, equipment, supplies, housing, transportation, food, and otherexpenses cost for the two to five years you are in the program? Are you going to live at home, in residence, off campus, or mixture of any of the three?
  • How are you going to pay for school? (e.g. Scholarship, Grant, Award, Bursary, OSAP, RESP, private loan, rich grandparent)
  • Are there other certifications, qualifications, courses or experiences that would help you get noticed by your future employer? (e.g. Smart Serve, WHMIS, Safe Chainsaw Operators, Boat Smart, First Aid and CPR, DZ Licence, Clean Criminal Background Check)

Part C: Your High School Years

  • What steps can/will you take now, while still in high school to reach my goals?

-Courses you need to take (e.g. pre-requisites). You may choose to use the My High School Planner in myblueprint.ca to help explain your course selection(s).

-Minimum grades needed in courses (eg. Entrance Marks or Cut-off)

-Qualifications (e.g. Emergency First Aid, National Lifesaving Society, G Licence)

-Volunteer work (e.g. soup kitchen, church /ministry outreach)

-Co-op placements (e.g.Grade 11 2-credit co-op, Grade 12 2-credit co-op, or Grade 12 4-creditco-op, OYAP, SHSM, at-risk co-op)

-Part-time employment

-Extracurricular activities that might help you reach your goals (e.g. sports, teams, clubs or activities: captain of volleyball, student council representative, Global Action Team, School Play)

  • With all of the above, be sure to explain how and why those particular steps will help get you noticed by an employer, apprenticeship, college or university

To complete your visual presentation use a display board such as Bristol board or software like PowerPoint or Prezi. Research and report your findings, being sure to consider all of your answers to the questions in Parts 1 to 3 of this assignment. Design your presentation to be organized, very clear, easy to understand and visually appealing. Please label your display/slides accordingly. Make it stand out with the addition of photos, magazine cut-outs, internet images, ribbons, or medals. BE CREATIVE! Most students need 10-20 slides to accurately describe their research.
