Finance Management Development Program (FMDP)

The goal of thisFMDP event is to create a pipeline of talent for future finance succession planning, at a leadership level.

The Opportunity:

The program will give you the chance to work in unique, challenging and constantly evolving roles that are key to our multiple global businesses. The projects will range in scope, allowing you to showcase your talents to a broad range of colleagues and executives, while giving you the experience necessary to thrive in seniorfinance roles. You will have the opportunity to participate in enterprise wide development programs and networking events. Your professional development will be encouraged and supported by a dedicated program manager, a growing pool of FMDP alumni and participating RBC Finance Executives.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Masters level degree, or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of accounting and financial theory, ideally with 2-3 years related work experience
  • Problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills acumen
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to build relationships and leverage internal capabilities
  • Superb verbal and written English communication skills, as well as confidence and poise in challenging situations
  • Ability to take initiative, drive change and improvements and provide solutions
  • Intermediate Excel skills (V-lookup, pivot tables etc.)
  • Working towards and Accounting designation would be considered an asset

What you’ll do:

This two-year program consists of four rotations of six months. These rotations may be held in either an enterprise level or business unit finance environment. Past rotations include:

  • Creating a monthly performance report for Canadian Banking
  • Working with a desk in New York to determine why their costs are higher than expected
  • Working with RBC in London, UK to put together a business case for a new real estate strategy
  • Identifying saving opportunities through vendor contract re-engineering
  • Forecasting, budgeting, reporting and working on the annual plan
