Dear Mr. Fleck,

The Jack’s Lake Association represents 410 members, around 70% of cottage and commercial operators and 10% of trailer park renters on the lake. The Directors are responding to the proposed long term management direction for the Bancroft Minden Forest, 2001-2021 Forest Management Plan.

In July, 2009 the Jack Lake Stewardship Plan was approved by 87% of 382 stakeholders who voted. The Lake Plan has a background research document that covers a wide range of areas including a lake description, social elements, natural heritage, physical elements, and land use. It also contains recommendations in the above areas and an action plan. It is a living document that will be updated regularly. Thankfully it has generated renewed interest among the lake’s stakeholders in assuming responsibility for the health of the watershed.

As you will see in our attached first response, we are sharing information about the lake and its watershed, expressing concerns and seeking answers to further understand the forest management plan.

We would like to have a representative from MNR Bancroft come to our Annual General Meeting that will be held around July 4, 2010 to explain the plan to our members and answer their questions. In addition, we are requesting that you write an article for our Summer, 2010 edition of the newsletter to explain the ramifications for Jack’s Lake and its stakeholders. This would be due to our editor in mid March.

We look forward to your reply.

Yours truly,

Ruth Pezzack
