Skylar Tibbits Research Scientist, MIT Department of Architecture

Skylar Tibbits’ research focuses on self-assembly and programmable material technologies for novel manufacturing, products and construction processes. Skyler is currently a Research Scientist in MIT’s Department of Architecture, teaching graduate and undergraduate design studios and co-teaching How to Make (Almost) Anything, a seminar at MIT’s Media Lab. Skylar was recently awarded a 2013 Architectural League Prize, The Next Idea Award at Ars Electronica 2013, the Visionary Innovation Award at the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, a 2012 TED Senior Fellowship and was named a Revolutionary Mind in SEED Magazine’s 2008 Design Issue.

Previously, he has worked at a number of renowned design offices including: Zaha Hadid Architects, Asymptote Architecture and Point b Design. He has designed and built large-scale installations at galleries around the world, has been published extensively in outlets such as the New York Times, Wired, Nature, Fast Company, various peer-reviewed journals and books.

Skylar has a Professional Degree in Architecture and minor in experimental computation from Philadelphia University. Continuing his education at MIT, he received a Masters of Science in Design Computation and a Masters of Science in Computer Science under the guidance of; Patrick Winston, Terry Knight, Erik Demaine and Neil Gershenfeld.

Skylar Tibbits is also the director of the Self-Assembly Lab at MIT. www.selfassemblylab.net

Skylar has collaborated with a number of influential people over the years including: Neil Gershenfeld and The Center for Bits and Atoms, Erik and Marty Demaine at MIT, Adam Bly at SEED Media Group and Marc Fornes of THEVERYMANY.

In 2007, Skylar Tibbits and Marc Fornes co-curated Scriptedbypurpose, the first exhibition focused exclusively on scripted processes within design.

CPR/AED Training Big Blue River, Ft. Riley Rooms (Hotel Side) Participants will be able to recognize and react to cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants with CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to recognize and react to common community first aid emergencies. Successful completion of this interactive session allows the participant to receive a nationally recognized two-year certification. Session is limited to 20 attendees and requires pre-registration. $20 fee. Presented by: Jane Rock, Free State High School; and Jennifer Hare, USD 497 Lawrence High School. New CTE Coordinators Workshop Alcove Room Open to all New CTE Coordinators (1 to 3 years), this session will serve as a follow-up to our initial New CTE Coordinators session held last September. This session is open to ALL new CTE Coordinators whether you were able to attend the September meeting or not. With the growing importance of CTE as it relates to the New Vision of Education in Kansas now’s the time to learn how you can take CTE in your district to the next level! Bring all your questions/comments regarding Pathways and Perkins now that you have some coordinating experience. Pre-registration requested. KSU Stadium Tour West Stadium Center, Bill Snyder Family Stadium The $81 million, 250,000 square foot West Stadium Center opened in Fall 2013, and is a first-class facility that impacts the daily experience of 444 student-athletes in 16 sports who proudly represent Kansas State University. Join us on this tour for an inside look at various features and spaces otherwise off limits to the general public. Tour will cover the Concourse, Premium Seating Lobby, Performance Table (where the athletes eat), and the Premium Seating Areas (Club, Loge, University Lounge and 4th Floor Suite). Tour is limited to 50 attendees and requires pre-registration. $10 fee. Directions from the Hilton Garden Inn: Head south on 3rd Street; Turn right onto Fort Riley Boulevard; Continue onto Tuttle Creek Blvd.; Use the left two lanes to turn left onto Kimball Avenue; Take Kimball Avenue until you see Bill Snyder Family Stadium (BSFS) on the left; Turn left into BSFS through Gate 5 by the marquee; Park in the West parking lot by Gate B near the Bill Snyder statue. The tour will start at the Bill Snyder statue at Gate B.
