Internship Job Search Strategies Workshop Tuesday, January 30

Internships provide an opportunity for students to apply academic skills, knowledge, and theory in practical work settings. This workshop educates students about the advantages that internships provide in a job search. Students also learn the eligibility requirements when seeking credit for internships, how and when to search for internships, forms that need to be completed, and other tools needed to be successful in finding an internship.Students must RSVP through Laker CareerZone to attend this session.

Professional networks matter! The percentage of employers who use social media to screen potential candidates is growing every day. One of the most essential skills for a job seeker in the 21st century is understanding the professional social media website LinkedIn. Students will learn how to create a strong, professional social media presence, increase your on-line visibility through personal brand, gain access to unadvertised jobs, and update your traditional job search documents via social media outlets and how to expand your network using social media. Career Boot Camp Monday – Thursday, February 5 – 8

This four-day series covers workshops on resume-development, interviewing, conducting a job search, and making the most of a job fair. Students must pre-register for Career Boot Camp and will receive a certificate and a gift for successful completion. Each topic will be offered during the day and repeated in the evening. Professionalism 101 Workshop Thursday, February 15

Professionalism in the workplace is one of the many competencies that employers say students need to improve upon. This workshop will focus on information related to effective communication skills, enhancing your self-image, developing a business-savvy wardrobe, appropriate work ethic and how improving these competencies will greatly enhance your ability to receive and maintain internships and jobs. Senior Career Academy Friday, February 23

The Senior Career Academy is a week-long program designed to help graduating seniors focus their career searches and develop skills needed for career success. Seniors receive individualized assistance and have opportunities to network with a select group of employers. Limited number of spaces available. Networking and Personal Branding Workshop Thursday, March 1

UC327 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Networking is the process of developing professional relationships in industries and organizations of interest to you. It is the “human aspect” of the job search that helps to connect job seekers with the numerous positions that are never advertised. During this session, students will learn about networking and have a chance to practice networking skills. Students must RSVP through Laker CareerZone to attend this session.

Job and Graduate School Fair Thursday, March 15Student Activities Center Ballrooms 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Job and Graduate School Fair brings dozens of organizations and graduate schools to campus for the opportunity to network with Clayton State current students and graduates. Students and graduates make contacts that lead to greater understanding of job and career opportunities and may lead to interviews. Participants are required to wear professional attire and are encouraged to bring copies of resumes to share. No RSVP required.

Practice Interview Day Thursday, March 22

Career Services Office (Edgewater Hall 228) 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (by appointment)

Students gain valuable experience by having a practice interview with an employer. The employer conducts a realistic practice interview and then provides feedback about the student’s interviewing skills. Students must schedule practice interview times in advance. Limited appointment times are available. Call or stop by the Office of Career Services to schedule your appointment by Friday, March 16.

Business Etiquette Luncheon Thursday, April 5

Student Activities Center Ballroom C 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Purchase tickets from Career Services by no later than Wednesday, March 28th, 2017

(Limited number of tickets available)

The Business Etiquette Luncheon provides students an opportunity to learn about effective networking and appropriate dining etiquette for a variety of professional situations. Participants eat a multi-course meal while the leader guides them through the etiquette of using tableware, managing different courses, and responding professionally during business dining.

GACE Statewide Career Fair Wednesday, April 18

Cobb Galleria Centre 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The College-To-Career-fair is a statewide job fair for students and graduates from schools that are members of the Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers (GACE). Employers who might not visit each of the campuses will gather for this opportunity to network with hundreds of students from across the state. Students and graduates can learn about opportunities, network with employers, and make the personal contact that might lead to an interview or employment.
