I. / Course
Description: / Career Preparedness B focuses on academic planning and career development, technology skill applications, managing finances and budgeting, saving and investing, banking and financial institutions, credit and debit, and risk management.Amajor emphasis is placed on preparing students for optional credentialingthrough Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification available upon completion of this course. No prerequisite required for this class. Fee required.
This is not a lecture course. Class discussion is essential in this online course. Each student must participate weekly on Google Classroom with meaningful discussion. You should come to teacher office hours prepared to ask questionsabout what you have read, to evaluate the material, and to express your own reasoned views on issues, if needed.
II. / Course
Objectives: / After successful completion of this course, students will have participated in assessments regarding interests and aptitude as well as utilizing information to help manage personal finances and reduce personal risk. Students will acquire skills, attitudes, and knowledge that enables them to achieve success in school, at work, and across the life span.
III. / Classroom

  • Any student who receives a failing grade during this course is urged to discuss this with the teacher.

IV. / JC Grading Policy: / Test grades will account for 70% of the 18-weeks grade, with the remaining 30% being determined by quiz/daily grades. The grading scale is as follows: A (90- 100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (65-69), and F (below 65). Grades will be a reflection of mastery of the standards. Make sure all absences are excused as class work can be made up and graded for excused absences only. The Final Exam counts for 1/5 of final grade.
V. / JC Make-up and Test
Policy: / Assignments are posted on Google Classroom. It is the responsibility of each student to check for missed work. Students must actively participate in the online course. If students are not up to date with course work within a week, they are put on academic probation. Students will have two days to rectify the situation. If a student does not stay up to date with coursework for another week, he or she will be put on academic probation again. The third occurrence warrants withdrawal from the class.
Any student talking or on their personal devices during the testing timeframe, regardless if the student is testing or not will result in a penalization of a 0, for academic dishonesty.
VI. / Computer Usage: / Students must attend three face-to-face meetings. The first will be an initial meeting prior to the course beginning. The second will be a midterm meeting to be scheduled at the teacher’s discretion. The third meeting will also be scheduled at the teacher’s discretion toward the end of the course. These dates will be provided by the teacher during the first week of class. These meetings will be held before or after school.

  • Daily access to a computer
  • Students must use blue or black ink and/or pencil for face to face meetings.

VIII. / Class Work and
Homework: / All daily assignments are due at the time noted on the Learning Management System.
Any work turned in late will automatically result in aletter grade deduction each day the assignment is late. Any duplication of classwork/homework will result in an automatic penalization and a 0 for academic dishonesty.
IX. / FBLA: / Students are strongly urged to join Future Business Leaders of America(FBLA), a student organization that strives to help students developleadership qualities required in the business world. FBLA is the largeststudent business organization in the country with over 250,000 members.
