Career Investigation Report

Purpose: This report will give you an introduction into the types of jobs available to you and inform you of the requirements to get that job. This will be graded as a Performance task which are 30% of your final grade.

Description:

--Career Report: This report will be a minimum 3 page (12 point font) report on a career of your choosing. You will submit the report as a Microsoft word document via Turnitin.com. (Note: You may work on the report in google docs and then upload it to turnitin.com if you prefer).

This report will include:

PART I: Shmoop Career Investigation

  1. Go to:
  2. Take the career quiz
  3. Answer these questions in one paragraph
  4. What is your strongest type?
  5. What fields should you go into?
  6. What are some job examples in those fields?
  7. Pick three of the careers suggested for you and click on them to discover more
  8. FOR EACH CAREER
  9. Describe the job by summarizing the web pagein paragraph form
  10. Write everything in your own words. DO NOT copy/paste sections of the web page or other web pages!!
  11. List related jobs

PART II: Collegeboard Career Investigation

  1. Go to:
  2. Use the “Career Categories” menu on the right side of the screen
  3. For each career you chose in Part I find that career (or as close as you can get to that career)
  4. FOR EACH CAREER answer the following questionsin complete sentences:
  5. What classes should you take in high school?
  6. What is the job outlook for this career?
  7. What are some examples of compensation for this career?

PART III: Major Search

  1. Still on the site:
  2. Use the “Major Categories” on the left side of the screen
  3. For each career you choose find a major that corresponds to that career (hint: look for the major in the same heading you looked for your career in)
  4. Some categories may have multiple majors. Pick ONLY one major per career.
  5. FOR EACH MAJOR answer the following questionsin complete sentences:
  6. What kind of degree with this major lead to?
  7. What high school courses should you take?
  8. What major courses will you take?
  9. What kinds of things should you be ready to do with this major?
  10. What things should your college have (see college checklist)

PART IV: College Search

  1. Go to the site:
  2. On the left hand side select the category “Majors and Learning Environment”
  3. Enter the majors you selected in Part III and any factors from your college checklist (i.e. internship opportunities)
  4. Close the window to see results
  5. FOR EACH MAJOR
  6. Choose three colleges or universalities
  7. CaliforniaStateUniversity or University of California
  8. One private school (in California or elsewhere)
  9. One out of state school
  10. Click on each college’s name
  11. FOR EACH COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY answer the following questionsin complete sentences:
  12. When is the regular application deadline?
  13. What percentage of undergraduate graduate in six years?
  14. How much is the average financial aid package?
  15. What it the tuition for instate students?
  16. What is the tuition for out of state students?
