Career Center Students Win at BPA Regionals

JACKSON, Mich. – Tom Wilson, a Napoleon high school senior enrolled in Computer Information Technology at the Jackson Area Career Center, qualified for state competition in five different Business Professionals of Americadivisions at the regional meet held on Jan. 6 at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn.

Wilson took first place in Administrative Concepts, second in Insurance Concepts, Information Technology Concepts, and PC servicing; sixth in Parliamentary Procedures, and qualified as an alternate in the Management Marketing Human Resource Concepts division.

“We have a really strong team of contenders this year in our BPA club,” said Jim Cox, Career Center computer instructor. "They are self-starters and hard workers with great drive to compete against other students."

The Career Center’s Jacob Chesney(Jackson High) and Nathan Smith-Timlin(Western) finished first in Web Application. Smith-Timlinalso landed third-place finishes in Information Technology Concepts and Cisco Networking.

Also bringing home the gold was Jackson High’s Robert Costello, who took first in PC Servicing and third in Computer Security.

Other Career Center state qualifiers were Adrian Bailey (Lumen Christi) and BlakeSawdey(Jonesville), who finished second and third in C++ Programming, Benjamin Soltis(Lumen Christi), second in Computer Security and sixth in PC Servicing, Dan Brigham (Concord) who was second in PC Servicing, and Kameron Putnam (Vandercook), who was third in Computer Network Technology. Bailey also took a third in Advanced Spreadsheets.

The Jackson Area Career Center’s BPA club is offered as a benefit and option to students who are enrolled in the Computer Information Technology program.
