DESCRIPTION: The Advising Resource Center (ARC) provides critical entry, persistence, and completion strategies for Edmonds Community College’s diverse student population. Under the supervision of the Director of Advising, the Career and Academic Advisorstrategically collaborates with variousfaculty and staff across campus to develop and deploy innovative pedagogical approaches that emphasize student development. Theseproactive entry and persistence experiences will include teaching students how to select and register for courses, integrating students’ strengths with academic goals, and promoting self-authorship in major and/or career selection. This position will deliver services in both one-on-one and group settings utilizingdynamic, engaging, and interactive formats. This is a full time exempt position.
The Career and Academic Advisor will work closely with all Student Services departments, including (but not limited to): Admissions, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Transcript and Evaluations, Testing Center, Early Alert, Career Action Center, Veterans Resource Center, Athletics, Counseling and Resource Center, Services for Students with Disabilities, and with campus and instructional programs, degrees, and certificates.
Responsibilities will include:
- Advise new/prospective, current, and returning students in navigating the various academic and professional/technical programs.
- Deliver culturally responsive, strengths-based advising strategies for all students.
- Lead New Student Advising sessions.
- Interpret academic and institutional policies for students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to student development, student success and retention, advising technology, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Assist students with degree plan completionwhile incorporating short/long-term educational and career objectives. This is to include communicating degree and pre-requisite requirements, development of a class schedule, and alignment of courses with transfer and/or career goals.
- Perform unofficial transcript evaluations as needed.
- Coach and guide new, prospective, and enrolled students through various processes such as admission, testing, registration, transcript evaluation, and pathways to career, completion, and transfer.
- Assist and guide students through preliminary career goal-setting and decision making processes. Support students in clarifying their career and academic goals. Refer students to the Counseling and Resource Center as well as the Career Action Center.
- Inform and update faculty and staff on policies and procedures that help students navigate program requirements.
- Provide faculty advising training sessions.
- Liaise with various instructional programs; assist in the development and implementation of a faculty advising system to help faculty advisors provide relevant, meaningful, and accurate information. Attend division meetings as needed.
- Assist in the coordination and support of Triton Jumpstart,a new student experience each quarter.
- Work closely with the Early Alert Coordinator and faculty to provide timely feedback to students about their academic progress, identify students who may benefit from more hands on academic success strategies, and refer them to academic skills courses or workshops, tutoring, counseling, and/or career guidance.
- Case manage students through barriers of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). This is to include developing strategies to enhance student success, academic interventions and remediation, as well as resource referrals.
- Assist and support the coordination of all transfer programs and services. Develop, implement, and evaluate resources to educate students about transfer opportunities to four-year institutions, including university trips and transfer events.
- Stay uptodate with trends and best practices regarding student retention; develop retention strategies for the college; and work closely with faculty, student outreach services staff, and otherstaff membersin implementing, evaluating, and improving retention.
- Partner with student services committees across campus in developing, implementing, supporting and communicatingopportunities for studentdevelopment, success, retention, and completion.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate accurate and appropriate statistical data and reports for academic advising programs and services in addition to employee performance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Utilize technology tools, using student development teaching strategies that empower students to take control of their academic experience, and empowering the entire campus community toward legitimizing their role in academic advising.
- Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director of Advising.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Human Services, Social Science, Counseling, Student Development, or related field.
- One year of demonstrated experience in academic advising, student programing, or student success and retention initiatives.
- One year of demonstrated experience presenting, and/or facilitating dynamic, interactive, and innovative workshops and presentations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Education, Communications, Human Services, Social Science, Counseling, Student Development, or related field.
- Two or more years of student success and retention experience in an education setting, preferably in higher education.
- Proven track record in developing, deploying, and evaluating student success and persistence strategies.
- Knowledge of student development theories and practices.
- Demonstrated experience with database systems used by Washington State Community and Technical Colleges, or similar database system.
- Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office software, Google Apps and database programs.
- Strong, culturally competent one-on-one and group facilitation skills.
- Excellent verbal, listening, writing, problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
- Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
- Highly motivated, team oriented, flexible, adaptive, strong multi-tasking skills and self-starter.
COMPENSATION:
The salary range is $44,668 - $45,562 annually for a twelve-month work schedule. The college provides an excellent benefits package including 24 vacation leave days per year.
