3. Job
Purpose of Job:
To assist the CARE For Europe Manager with the day to day running of the CARE For Europe office.
Key Accountabilities:
  • General office duties to include filing, answering phones, sending faxes
  • Taking responsibility for the management of the office petty cash account (making out petty cash vouchers, filing receipts and balancing books at month end)
  • Booking travel and accommodation for the CARE For Europe Manager
  • Arranging meetings in liaison with MEPs, other NGOs and home staff of CARE in UK
  • Attending meetings as observer and taking notes (eg. European Parliament Committees, European Commission briefing sessions etc.)
  • Undertaking research projects (using internet and library) into particular aspects of European policy as requested by the CARE For Europe Manager
  • Generation of report of findings
  • Translation of both incoming and outgoing documents as required between English and French
  • Making and maintaining relationships with key (especially francophone) contacts within the European Parliament – principally MEP’s assistants
  • Any other reasonable and related tasks as directed by the CARE For Europe Manager

Requirements for the job
Knowledge /
  • Knowledge of current affairs
  • Interest in analysis of political issues
  • Experience of face to face / telephone contact with the public
  • Knowledge of contemporary, mainstream Christian thinking
  • Familiarity with CARE and its ethos

Skills /
  • IT literate. Demonstrable competence in the Internet, MS Office 2000 and supporting software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.)
  • A thorough approach which lends itself to methodical, accurate work produced in a timely manner to meet deadlines
  • The ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in correspondence with individuals at all levels in both French and English
  • French language skills to undergraduate level
  • The ability to produce clear, concise and accurate correspondence and documentation
  • Good people skills and the ability to deal with others with integrity and diplomacy

Disposition /
  • Adaptability and flexibility to a constantly changing workload pattern
  • A determined and highly competent approach to administration
  • Capable of working under some pressure
  • The flexibility and willingness to work occasional overtime, when deadlines demand

Leave entitlement is 22 working days per calendar year on a pro-rata basis. In addition you are entitled all public and bank holidays.

Salary
€1,441 per monthgross
