CAPT. FREEMAN PERRY HOUSE,

My Grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Anthony J. Courcher owned the Capt. Freeman Perry House from 1966-1972. We had purchased the house form Mrs. Mary Cavanaugh and of course she informed my family of the house being haunted and after talking with the people in town we found out the history of the house, The captain from what I recalled died while burning leafs on his front lawn and his daughter Roberta had died from starvation. We have a picture of Roberta and we have the saddle to Roberta's horse. My mother used to see a man in a checkered shirt running on the lawn and Roberta used to follow my Mom while she was making up the rooms (we had operated the house as a rooming house during the summer months) and my Mom would ask her if she could help her or was there something she wanted but there was no reply. During the night there was a grand piano in the living room that played music during the night but we had seen the keys move but no one at the piano and when I used to play in the barn I would see Roberta. In the last year we were at the house my Grandmother was persuaded into conducting a séance. Now I was five years old at this time and I was told I could watch but be very quiet and I was sitting near the fire place and the front door (my guess is that if something was to happen I would run out of the room) during the séance a plate came flying out of the kitchen which if my Grandmother had not ducked out of its way she would have been injured. In 1972 my Grandmother had a stoke and being my Mom & I lived with my Grandparents (my Mom & Dad were divorced) it was decided that the house was to be sold. In the 1980s as I became a teenager I had somewhat of an interests in the house and in 1987 my Grandfather and I made a trip up to Brewster and met the owner at the time a man by the name of Choen. It gave us a tour of the house. Outside of a few modifications the house was still the same. He had told us he also learned of the history of the house from the people in town and we had asked him if he or his family had seen anything of the spirits and he told us no. I had then asked Mr. Cohen if he was thinking of selling he said no but he would let us know if he was going to.
